Want to use Twitter Spaces for marketing? Not sure how to get started?
In this article, you'll learn how to start or schedule a Twitter space, get tips for using Spaces features, and find ideas for hosting a discussion that supports your business.
#1: Choose a Topic for Your Twitter Space
When you use Twitter Spaces for marketing your business, you'll want to make sure the spaces you host are engaging and interesting for your listeners. Here are seven ideas to consider when choosing a topic.
Offer Expert Advice via a Weekly Series
If you want to be more active with your Twitter account, you can develop a weekly series that ensures you show up on a regular basis.
For instance, you might want to host a Twitter space that focuses on advice for the week. This is helpful because it offers real-time tips and tricks for current events or problems your target audience is facing. Should something major happen in your industry during the week, you'll be able to address it in a timely manner. And the weekly schedule keeps people coming back for more.
Lead an Open Mic Conversation
What makes social media so special is its ability to bring together people from all around the world. With Twitter Spaces, you can have real-time conversations with people no matter where you are.
Consider hosting a more casual chat where you and a group of other speakers can just let the conversation flow. Of course, you'll want to choose a topic so there's an overall focus. However, the open mic style gives everyone the chance to speak and creates a comfortable atmosphere for anyone who wants to grab the virtual mic.
Host a Podcast-Style Interview
Going live is often less intimidating when you have a co-host working alongside you. Invite a guest expert to be the focus of your Twitter space by conducting a podcast-style interview. The only difference is that you'll have a live audience tuning in.
Choose a guest who's knowledgeable in your field and has interesting perspectives that will intrigue your listeners. And come up with questions ahead of time so there are no gaps in the conversation. This way, everything will move along smoothly. Once the interview portion wraps up, you can open the floor to questions from those listening live.
Seek Feedback on New Offerings
When inspiration for a new product or service strikes, you sometimes want to check in with your audience to see if it's something they'd actually be interested in. Otherwise, you might pour tons of time and effort into creating an offer that no one wants. Instead, go live on Spaces to talk about your idea and get honest feedback from others.
Host a Q&A Session to Address Frequently Asked Questions
Hosting a Q&A session via a Twitter space is an easy way to engage your audience and provide value by offering them helpful advice. It also provides an opportunity to gather feedback on the preferences and pain points of those in your target audience. Plus, they'll appreciate that you're getting actively involved with them by hosting these types of conversations.
When hosting Q&As, you want to come prepared just in case those tuning in live don't have many questions for you. Make a list of some of the questions you're frequently asked and address those after answering questions from live attendees.

Hold Weekly Virtual Networking Events
If you're looking for a way to make new connections (while helping others do the same), you can host a weekly networking space. It gives everyone the chance to meet people they wouldn't have otherwise met without having to leave the comfort of their own homes.
For many people, it takes the stress out of networking since it's less intimidating than being with people face to face. These events can be geared toward a specific niche like female entrepreneurs, food bloggers, health coaches—whatever's relevant to your expertise.
Conduct Live Audits for Personalized Feedback
Another great way to use Twitter Spaces for marketing is to do a live audit. This allows you to give listeners personalized feedback that they might not otherwise be able to receive unless they hire you. Think about what you could audit that would be relevant to your business.
If you're a social media manager, you might offer to audit one of a company's social media accounts. I offer a weekly Twitter profile audit in Spaces, which allows me to showcase my knowledge and help people at the same time. If you're a website developer, you could visit their website and provide audits based on how user-friendly it is.
#2: Start or Schedule a Twitter Space
To get started, open the Twitter mobile app and long-press on the Compose button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. This will display a few different options including the button to compose a tweet, one to search for GIFs, and the purple Spaces logo that features a cluster of dots. Tap that one.
Next, you'll be prompted to name your space. Consider the topic you'll be talking about and choose a relevant name. Because Twitter is currently beta testing the ability to search for live and upcoming spaces via title, host name, and host handle, it's important that you make a wise choice.
You may even notice that Twitter asks you to select up to three topics related to your space. Choose any that are relevant as this can help boost discoverability. At the time of this post, this feature is still rolling out to users so be on the lookout for it.
When you're done, tap Start Your Space. This will officially start your space and it'll become visible to your followers, giving them the opportunity to join and listen to you speak. Your microphone will be muted at first so be sure to unmute yourself when you're ready to speak.
If you don't plan to go live at that moment but want to schedule your space for later, you have the option to do that as well. Tap the calendar button and you'll be taken to a menu where you can choose the date and time that you plan to go live.

GET THE DETAILSThe benefit of scheduling a space is that you can promote it ahead of time. This gives you the opportunity to attract more listeners because you can post details leading up to the event.
Let people know what you'll be discussing in your space, as well as who'll be joining as a co-host (if anyone). Anything you can do to bring in more listeners will benefit you in the long run.
People will then be able to set a reminder or add the event to their calendar so they can plan to join you live. They can even share it with a friend. That's super-helpful with platforms like Spaces where the conversations disappear afterward because it allows you to generate additional interest beforehand.
#3: Manage Your Twitter Space
Once you go live, there are a few things you should know to efficiently manage your Twitter space.
You can't just turn on your microphone and talk for an hour by yourself. There will likely be people joining and wanting to speak with you because social media is meant to be a two-way street in terms of communication. That means you'll need to know how to use your microphone, manage speakers, and more.
Once inside your Twitter space, you'll notice a few icons along the bottom of the screen. These are going to be essential.
Here's what each of them means:
- Microphone: Tap this to mute/unmute yourself if you're the host or have speaking privileges. If you're a listener, you can use this button to request to speak. In this case, you'll have to wait until one of the hosts gives you approval.
- Manage Speakers: As a host, the people button is how you'll accept speaker requests, send co-host invites, and invite speakers to join the virtual stage. You can also see a full list of everyone who's in the space as a listener.
- Emoji Reactions: Silently react to the conversation by using this emoji reaction button. It's a simple way to let the speakers know you love what they're sharing.
- Raised Hand: There's also an emoji to raise your hand as a speaker. When you tap on it, others can see you've raised your hand, indicating you have something to say. It's great for those moments when you want to add your two cents but don't want to interrupt. If you tap the emoji again, it'll go away.
- Share: Tapping this icon reveals a menu with options to share your space via direct message, copy the link, and share via other platforms. It'll be beneficial in getting more people to tune in so be sure to share once you're live and encourage listeners to do the same.
- Settings: The three-dots icon at the top of the space gives you access to settings. Here, you'll find information about Spaces, the ability to adjust settings and share feedback, Spaces rules, and the option to turn on captions. Should you encounter a problematic space, you can also report it from here.
The features Twitter Spaces has to offer are what make it a truly impressive platform for creating audio content. Some of those features remind us of where its competitor, Clubhouse, is lacking.
Here are some quick tips on using the features that are currently available.
Assign a Co-Host
If you're serious about using Twitter Spaces for marketing, you'll want to deliver a valuable experience to your audience every time you're live. Because of this, you may not want to allow yourself to get distracted with the ins and outs of actually managing the space. If you have someone on your team who can join you live, you can make that person a co-host.
Twitter lets you add up to two co-hosts to your space. Those co-hosts can help with managing speakers and approving requests when a listener wants to grab the mic on the virtual stage.
While you're live, tap on the Speakers button. A menu will pop up and you'll see the option to invite co-hosts by searching their username. An invite will be sent to those users.
Pin a Tweet in Your Space
You can highlight a tweet as a talking point for your conversation by pinning it at the top of the space. To do this, simply navigate to the tweet you'd like to pin and add it. These tweets provide a visual aid and make it easier for speakers and listeners to follow the conversation.
Turn on Captions
You can switch on captions by accessing the settings while inside a space. This feature is crucial in making audio content accessible by those who are hearing-impaired.
Host Ticketed Spaces
If you want to monetize your Twitter presence, this is a great option. You can charge access to the spaces you host, anywhere from $1 to $999. It's important to note that you do need to meet eligibility requirements and request access to use this feature.
Conclusion
Twitter Spaces is an amazing way to reach new customers, create a stronger brand image, and increase visibility. The platform is constantly working to implement new features and its dedicated Twitter account @TwitterSpaces will give you access to the latest updates.
Now that you have a step-by-step guide on how to use Twitter Spaces for marketing, there's no reason not to get started. All you need to do is pick a topic for your first conversation and hit the Start Your Space button!
