Did you miss the latest changes to Threads? Wondering which new features are important to marketers?
In this article, we explore changes from Threads that matter to marketers.

#1: About Threads
Threads, the text-first app built by the Instagram team, launched on July 6, 2023 and grew to 100,000,000 users within days.
The app is currently available in United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Japan but rolling the app out to users in the EU could take months due to requirements of the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA)
The team developing Threads is working toward making the app “compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that we believe can shape the future of the internet.”
#2: Threads Content
Posts on Threads can use up to 500 characters and include links, images, and videos up to five minutes long.
Our Take: It’s early days for Threads and that means we’re all just trying to figure out what works on the platform. The experience is certainly reminiscent of Twitter but finding what you’re looking for with regard to content and identifying trends can be challenging because there are no hashtags and you can’t search for words or phrases; search is limited to finding people. Businesses and people are cautiously exploring what works and most Threads posts lean toward text-only. Peg Fitzpatrick cautioned brands about repurposing content, noting that she’s not seen a single repurposed TikTok video in her feed. If your brand wants to repurpose content, she suggests choosing and rewriting your best performing tweets.
#3: Threads User Experience
Threads Dictionary of Terms
Meta’s Threads Dictionary helps users identify with terminology for the platform.
Threads is the app and a Thread is a discussion on the app. A Thread is made up of individual Posts. Other terms such as Reply, Repost, and Quote are commonly recognized social media actions.

Threads App Navigation
The app’s interface is fairly basic and consists of two tabs, Threads and Replies. A Following tab that shows only posts from the people you follow has been announced and is rolling out to some users.
The Activity section of the app, accessed by tapping on the heart icon, shows your notifications which can be filtered by All, Follows, Replies, Mentions, Quotes, Reposts, and Verified.

#4: Threads User Tips
Threads Conversations
Following conversations and responses on Threads is refreshingly simple because when someone you follow replies to a post, that post is shown with their reply, giving you immediate context.
Threads Replies
When you post, it’s possible to limit who can reply to your Post by tapping on “Anyone can reply” to reveal three options: Anyone, Profiles you follow, and Mentioned only.

Threads Account Management

Deactivation temporarily hides your profile, threads, replies, and likes until you log back into the Threads app.
