Social Media Marketing Strategy: 5 Steps to Sales and Conversions by Dana Malstaff on Social Media Examiner.

To learn a social media marketing strategy that leads to sales and conversions, read the article below for an easy-to-follow walkthrough or watch this video:

#1: Decide What You Want to Promote and Sell

To get people to buy your business's products and services, you have to build trust. But how do you do that on Facebook or Instagram? By building buzz and excitement so when you go to sell your products and services, people will buy.

Start by thinking about what you want to build buzz for. You don't want to post just anything on your business page. Instead, keep the end in mind. What product or service do you want to sell or what podcast or piece of content do you want to promote? Once you know what you want to build buzz for, you can frame the conversation for the next month.

    #2: Identify Gaps and Objections

The next step is to identify any gaps and objections your target audience might have. It's about understanding how people think and moving them from one belief system to another.

Let me give you an example from my own business. Most people believe that the only way to grow their business is to launch their products or services live but I teach people to do things with an evergreen approach.

I have to shift the way they think about launches and how they launch their own products so they can begin to believe that launching evergreen is the right way. Once I get them to fill that gap, it's easier to get them to say yes to buying my products.

When thinking about objections, you need to identify the reasons people might say no.

My target audience may think they don't have enough money, time, knowledge, or skills. With my buzz plan, I build them up over time so they know they have enough time. They can make time. They can earn enough money and have the skills to implement what I'm going to teach them. That way, when I go to sell them something, they're more likely to buy.

#3: Ask for Feedback From Your Audience

Another way to build buzz is to ask your target audience to help you develop your products and services. I know this tactic sounds simple but it works.

By asking your audience for feedback, you build familiarity and get them excited about what you're doing. Then when you introduce that product into the market, more people are likely to buy.

#4: Build Social Proof With Outreach Appearances

You also want to build authority with featured guest appearances and social proof. I can't stress this enough.

Get featured in places outside of your own audience such as other people's YouTube channels, podcasts, and blogs. Do Facebook Live videos with others in their Facebook groups, or go live with others on Instagram. The more you get featured, the more authority you build.

    ALT

Show proof and testimonials. Talk about your experiences working with other businesses and past clients and share what they're doing now. All of these actions will help you build authority so people will trust that you know what you're talking about when it comes time to sell your products.

#5: Soft Sell by Casually Mentioning Your Products and Services

Inline mentions are a great way to sell without selling. Instead of having to continually ask people to buy your products and services, just mention your product, clients, and results without making an entire post all about the product or service. Bloggers use this tactic to nonchalantly mention their affiliate products or other past posts in a blog.

These inline mentions build familiarity and prime people to get excited about your products and services so they'll want to purchase them later.

Bonus: How to Avoid 3 Mistakes That Can Kill Your Conversions

There's a sweet spot between selling all the time and never talking about anything you sell. Here's how to avoid three mistakes that can kill your conversions.

First, you have to actually tell people what you're selling. If you hide what you're selling and never talk about it, people can't get familiar with it and excited about purchasing it later.

Second, don't post about everything on Facebook. You need to have a narrow focus and build anticipation for a singular topic. Otherwise, you'll confuse the market and people won't know what you stand for or what you're selling.

Finally, don't sell too many things at once. If you talk about too many products at any given time, you'll dilute the market. Instead, focus on building buzz for one or two products. Find ways to talk about the same thing in 50 different ways as opposed to talking about 50 different things.

    Conclusion

To get people to buy your products and services, you have to build trust. To do that on Facebook, you need to build buzz and anticipation. This five-step promotion plan will help you overcome objections and change people's way of thinking so when you do offer your products and services, they'll be ready to buy.
