How to Use AI to Write Your SOPs for You
Every marketer has processes they follow but never write down. If the way you name campaigns, format UTM links, or set up email sequences is all in your head, your work can be inconsistent, hard to hand off, and easy to forget.
AI can fix that in one conversation. Pick any process you do repeatedly — UTM tagging is a great first test — and paste a few real examples into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. Then use this prompt:
Here are several examples of how I set up [process]. Study the patterns — naming conventions, formatting, what stays the same, and what changes. Then write me a step-by-step SOP I can follow every time and hand to a teammate.
AI will pull the rules out of your examples, catch inconsistencies you didn’t notice, and hand you a clean, written SOP in minutes. Review it, tweak anything it got wrong, and save it. You just documented a process that’s been living in your head — without starting from a blank page.
Here’s the bonus: once you have a written SOP, you can hand it right back to AI and ask it to do the task for you. That UTM tagging SOP? Paste it into your next chat along with a list of links, and AI will tag them all following your rules. The SOP becomes both the documentation and the instruction set.
