Change Gems and GPTs Into Skills, Train Autonomous AI Employees, and Industry News

    by Michael Stelzner / September 3, 2026

Friday is almost here! Before you unplug, here's one last round of insights and updates. Whether you read them now or save them for later, you won't want to miss these.

    In today's edition:

    • Convert Gems and GPTs into Skills

    • Build AI employees that match your standards and work autonomously

    • 🗞️ Industry news from Gemini, Meta, and more

How to Convert Custom GPTs and Gemini Gems into Skills

Skills have become the new gold standard for custom AI assistants. AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini have had GPTs and Gems for some time, but you've always had to navigate to them separately.

Claude Skills changed the game. Type a slash, select the one you want, and it's right there in your conversation. Creating them is easy, too. Just tell the AI what you want.

Recent news indicates that ChatGPT and Gemini both appear to be phasing out their traditional custom GPTs and Gems in favor of Skills, so it's time to convert those assistants.

First, grab the instructions from your GPT or Gem, along with any knowledge or reference files.

Next, open the Skills creation area in your tool of choice and start creating a new Skill via chat.

Then attach your files, explain the goal, and paste in the instructions from your GPT or Gem. Ask the AI to convert everything into a properly formatted Skill, adjusting whatever needs to change.

Finally, test it. If the results aren't quite right, iterate on the instructions until the Skill works the way you're used to.

Want to make this conversion even easier? Get the ready-to-use prompt for converting your GPTs and Gems into Skills instantly when you join the AI Business Society.

    Make AI Decisions You Trust

Every week brings another tool, another claim, another “must-try” for your business. Most of them aren't worth your time — but knowing which ones are takes testing, research, and extra time you don't have.

The AI Business Society does that work for you. Tested frameworks, practitioner guidance, and curation that turns guesswork into decisions you can stand behind.

    Show me what works.

How to Train AI Employees to Take Work Off Your Plate

Most business owners say their team is already using AI every day. But there is a massive gap between chatting with AI and building trained AI employees that actually do the work for you. Callan Faulkner, founder of The Uncommon Business and creator of the Automate to Accelerate program, has trained over 20,000 businesses on how to close that gap. Her approach could change the way you think about every task on your to-do list.

Why “Using AI Every Day” Is Not the Same as Using It Well

Discover the critical difference between chatting with AI one task at a time and building reusable systems that work for you on demand. Callan explains the mindset shift that separates people who tinker with AI from those who build repeatable, high-quality output machines.

The “Business Brain” Your AI Employees Need Before They Can Perform

Your AI can only work with what it knows. Learn why a centralized, organized repository of your pricing, processes, brand voice, and past wins is now a prerequisite for getting real results from AI. Callan shares exactly what belongs in this foundation and why a messy Google Drive is no longer something you can get away with.

From Prompt to Skill to Scheduled Task: The AI Employee Pipeline

Find out how Callan takes a single AI conversation and turns it into a trained, reusable skill that runs on a schedule without human involvement. She walks through the exact progression, from interview to iteration to automation, and reveals what most people skip that keeps their AI stuck at average.

The Training Investment Most People Quit Too Early

Callan reveals how long it actually took to build an AI employee that writes in her exact voice and why most people give up before their AI gets good. Learn her process for testing, correcting, and refining a skill until it produces work that matches or exceeds what a human can deliver.

Just Explain What You Want Done

Automating your work used to mean developers, budgets, and months of waiting. Now it means one clear description of the job — and AI handles the rest.

Our free field guide walks you from a plain description to a working system. Four prompts do most of the heavy lifting.

Gemini Live Expands From Voice Assistant to Agentic Productivity Tool: Google is upgrading Gemini Live so users can move from talking about tasks to delegating them by voice. New integrations with Spark, Daily Brief, Gmail, and Personal Intelligence allow Gemini to execute multi-step workflows, summarize schedules and inbox updates, manage emails hands-free, and retrieve relevant information from previous conversations and connected Google apps. The update positions Gemini Live as a more proactive assistant that can coordinate work across Google's ecosystem from a continuous voice conversation. Google

Google Adds Professional Video Controls to Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash: Google's latest Omni model gives developers and creators greater control over AI-generated video, including longer scene extensions, first-to-last-frame interpolation, video references, faster low-resolution drafts, and 4K output. The update is designed to make AI video workflows easier to iterate on while producing more consistent, production-ready results. Omni 1.1 is available through Google's developer ecosystem and to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers through Flow, with scene extension also available in the Gemini app. Google

Google Gives Gemini Agentic Video Understanding: Google has introduced a new agentic approach to video analysis that lets Gemini actively decide which moments and signals it needs to inspect instead of processing an entire video at a fixed rate. Available across Gemini 3.7 Flash, 3.6 Flash, and 3.5 Flash-Lite, the capability is designed to make tasks such as long-form search, precise moment retrieval, anomaly detection, and action counting more accurate and efficient. Google says the approach can cut token usage by up to 88% and costs by up to 66%, while improving accuracy by as much as 7%. Google

Google Launches Gemini 3.5 Transcribe for Smarter Voice Experiences: Google has introduced Gemini 3.5 Transcribe, a speech-to-text model that goes beyond literal transcription by cleaning up filler words, interpreting corrections, formatting speech, and adapting to specialized vocabulary across more than 85 languages. Developers can use it for real-time voice applications or recorded audio workflows, while Google is embedding the technology across products including Gboard, Antigravity, AI Studio, and Gemini for macOS, with Chrome support coming next. Google

Google Launches Pics for AI Image Creation and Editing in Workspace: Google is rolling out Google Pics, a standalone and Workspace-integrated AI tool for creating, refining, and collaborating on visual assets. Powered by the Nano Banana model, Pics offers targeted object editing, in-image text modification and translation, multiple generations, and collaborative workflows. Integration begins with Docs and Slides, with Drive support coming in the weeks ahead, bringing AI image creation directly into existing Workspace workflows. Google

Meta Expands AI Monetization With Core and Premium Subscriptions: Meta has rolled out Meta AI Core and Meta AI Premium, giving users paid options for more access to its AI tools, including greater image and video generation capacity. The new Core tier provides a middle ground between standard access and the higher-priced Premium package, while both subscriptions bundle Meta's Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus, and WhatsApp Plus offerings with benefits such as profile verification and enhanced support.
