Wordpress Site (5 posts)

  • Building a site for a customer. We used a theme builder to get the basic “look” down. The site is a basic site, but the customer eventually wants to do ecommerce again. Now I’m being told by a third party that we must buy an ecommerce Wordpress site and we cannot use the theme that was built for the site. Is there a plugin that can be used instead or do you need to buy an ecommerce site to get it to work properly?

  • There are a number of plugins to do this i.e. Shopplugin  https://shopplugin.net/
If it is a big shop I would recommend doing it seperatly with Magento for example http://www.magentocommerce.com/

  • Use Ecwid: http://www.ecwid.com. It will work with any theme since it pulls in the shopping cart via a cloud network. It’s very well thought out, easy to use and just plain wonderful. No need for an SSL cert. either.

It uses a free plugin and a thrid party free Ecwid account but you get better options with the paid service for $17/mo. like SEO capabilities and discount codes, etc.

We like Shopp. I don’t think it matters which theme you use for Shopp. https://shopplugin.net/

  • thanks for asking this question and good to have Rich’s answer… @lizkarschner @rich-brooks
