Women’s Day marketing (7 posts)

  • I would like to write a blog post on how marketers can take advantage of women’s day. Special days are always good occasions to do some promotion or special offer, and make – in this case – women happy. It’s a win – win!

    I am curious:
What are the traditions and customs in your country connected to Women’s Day?
What advices would you give marketers when they think about Women’s Day?

  • @zsuzsaszab

I’m not sure that in America we have an official Women’s Day. Is this a country specific celebration, or is it global?

    What’s the official date?

  • Actually it’s the International Women’s Day, and people celebrate it all over the world, as far as I know. And, – as I know – people in Canada celebrate it. It’s 8th March.
I believe you if you say there is no WD in America, then I will not write a post. :D

  • @zsuzsaszab Yup, in Canada it’s on March 8th and it’s a fairly big deal. Or was, I should rather say. Seems like it was big in the 80s then somewhat has been fading throughout the years. In part, I believe, with women obtaining more of the equal rights they deserved, access to Board of Directors, etc.

Having said all that, there are original promotions I can recall from the past few years where a transportation company (or any company in the travel & hospitality world) would organize a contest to win a trip for “you and all your girlfriends”. They would, of course, tie it with or around Women’s Day celebrations.

Then there’s all the typical stuff: chocolate, flowers, restaurants, etc. But not very original, is it?

My advice as a marketer is to use that day as a spark to engage discussion on social media and other communication tools of brand. Who’s that special woman in your life and why? Send a picture of a woman who made an impact in your life, i.e. mother, teacher, friend, etc.

    My 2 cents.

  • From Wiki - Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries, primarily Eastern EuropeRussia, and the former Soviet bloc
No wonder the US does not do anything, that would have been a cold war win for the other guys ;)

  • well, everyday is women’s day in the US!!! :) LOL We do have Mother’s Day in May and Grandparents’ Day is first Sunday after Labor Day @zsuzsaszab
