Why no YouTube Club? (8 posts)

  • Post-it Noted to the moderators: I’m posting this here because this club is about small business in general, as opposed to say the Facebook Club.

I ask this question because YouTube has been recognized for years as a huge social media marketing tool, yet I’ve not seen any mention of it here @ SME. CafePress has just integrated YouTube into their platform and I’m preparing to create my company account there.

YouTube = free advertising with the potential of going viral. That seems pretty important to me.

You’re absolutely right. YouTube is huge. With 800 unique visitors each month it’s got a reach similar to Facebook.

We’ve been using it successfully for years, and I’m a big fan.

Why it’s not it’s own club yet is because we’re starting small with three clubs and growing organically. Over time we’ll introduce more clubs as we’re ready to expand.

That being said, please feel free to post any questions, thoughts or comments on YouTube (or anything that doesn’t fall into Facebook & Blogging specifically) here in the small biz club.

    We welcome your input!

  • @rich-brooks Starting small and growing organically makes sense. I’ve taken a similar approach with my business.

Thank you for the invitation to post Youtube and general small biz subjects here.

  • I have been using YouTube for a little over a year now.  We are a John Deere dealership and John Deere allows to put copies of their videos on on our YouTube site thus providing them more coverage.  I create videos of our used equipment and other new equipment and post them there as well.  I post the used equipment videos on other where we advertise our used equipment.  I also embed many of the videos on our website.

I have 102 videos57,431 views in the last 365 days

Here is my channel…….you will see one of the videos I created, featured.

    @krmcgee

  • Here is a very information and interesting video made by John Deere.  About technology and farming……but anyone using technology would be interested as well.

  • @trudyd1474 Thank you for posting your YouTube channel info as an example of what I’m talking about. I think the way you show the equipment in action is a good idea. I’m sure you’re converted some of your video viewers into sales as a result.

The technology and farming video was interesting, but the presentation probably turns away a lot of viewers because of its text based format loaded with facts and figures, but very little visual information. I think people get bored real fast with this type of video because it lacks visual stimulation. People want to be entertained and unfortunately, a text based video isn’t very entertaining. I think most YouTube videos that get tons of views are visually engaging and don’t rely on text to deliver the information to the viewer.

What I’m telling you here is based on my education, which includes studying screenplay writing with Carl Kurlander, who is best known for St. Elmo’s Fire and Saved by the Bell. He taught me to avoid the above text based format.

Personally, I would be wary of making this type of video.

  • @krmcgee I user stand what you are saying about the technology video.  It was made by John Deere and I thought the stats were quite interesting.

  • @trudyd1474 I thought the stats were interesting, too. John Deere can make any kind of video it wants, simply stating my opinion.
