who is your sm role model? (16 posts)

Topic tags: experts, sm role model
  • With a plethora of experts out there, who do you look to as your role model? After whom are you fashioning your social media presence?

  • @deairby

Too many to mention. Although it sounds completely obsequious, I have to mention @mike-stelzner. There are few harder working people in social media these days.

Locally (Maine), I’m a fan of Amanda O’Brien, @amanda_pants on Twitter (but not here, yet.) She’s built up the social media breakfasts from a couple dozen people to a couple hundred people. She does an amazing job and I’m always impressed by her.

One more: Derek Halpern of Social Triggers. Probably the best blog out there right now. Check it.

  • Great question @deairby!@rich-brooks thanks for your input! Ill have to check them out!I tend to look to the same people regularly: SME blog, Amy Porterfield, Mari Smith and recently James Wedmore for YouTube magic!

  • @deairby I agree with @rich-brooks there are too many great examples. I will try to keep my personality and POV, but follow their lead and try to provide value

  • @writerofbooks

    Warren Buffet for investment

Richard Branson as the Brand Guru

  • @deairby I would not call them “role models” per se, but I would certainly say Brian Solis and Jeremiah Owyang, both associates at Altimeter Group, are beacons in the social media universe.

Seth Godin is awesome with his short, concise yet always thought-provoking blog posts.

Then you have the obvious ones to follow: Mike Stelzner, Jay Baer, Mari Smith, Guy Kawasaki. There are certainly a few more, but these are the ones I consider certainly as models in our sphere.

  • My 16 year old cousin. The amount of likes and posts he gets on updates that I can barely decipher are truly remarkable.

He is like textsfrombennet with a much higher SAT score.

  • Gary Vaynerchuk, Mari Smith, Amy Porterfield, Jim Cockrum, Chris Brogan and Seth Godin are a few I like, but like everyone has said there are too many too list.

That’s the great thing with the Internet and Social Media, you can get your voice heard. If we keep on keepin’ on and deliver value to our audience/ our following or our tribe as Seth Godin calls it,we will be in our own right like the names that we all have mentioned.

    Just my thoughts.

  • thanks for that encouraging word, it seems hopeless to ever get off the bottom… the challenge is to find your uniqueness, promote your difference, make your “one and only” contribution… @danhoward

  • @deairby, there are lots of to choose from, and each one is best of the best, though i like most  @mike-stelzner

  • you aren’t brown nosing, are you? he is pretty awesome, though! @moinshaikh

  • From a social and indbound marketing standpoint, I really look to Red Bull often for inspiration. Their social platforms are done incredibly well and they are constantly creating entertaining and informative content (video, audio, text) that is easily shareable.

From a professional standpoint, the list of bloggers and industry thinkers who’ve been mentioned (Chris Brogan, Seth Godin, etc.) are daily inspiration.

  • Forbes just came out with its Top 50 Social Media Power Influencers. Awesome list, but I am surprised Jay Baer is not in there, nor Michael Stelzner. Check it out!

  • you are the man! Thanks, Frederic. I still haven’t figured out Triberr. Not half as easy/good as SME! @fredericgonzalo

  • where’s Red Bull? @sbush
