Which Social Sites Do the Most Sharing? (6 posts)

  • In an article I was reading today called Google+ Has Been Abandoned, they included an interesting infographic about how often stories are shared on the “big four” social media platforms.

    (Sorry, Pinterest wasn’t included.)

For every 100m users, here was the average number of people on the network likely to share a story:

    • Twitter: 197.3
    • Facebook: 41.8
    • LinkedIn: 15.2
    • G+: 6.0
I’m not sure that this is going to change my immediate social activity, but do you find any of these numbers surprising?

Will it get you to pay more attention to Twitter? Less to LI or G+?

  • This is very interesting, @rich-brooks.  I personally try to share across all the social networks to keep my name out there, but I do tend to share more on Twitter than the others.  I probably share equally on Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+.  It seems that I get more shares of my own posts on Twitter also.  I’m curious to see what others think.  Thanks for starting this thread.

  • @rich-brooks Hey Rich

I do have to laugh when I read articles like this (or, should I call them link-bait?) Google+ is so full of life in small, well-developed niches.

Tapping into one of these has great potential for small businesses – you just have to spend some time there to find those who are your ideal customers.

The fact that big news stories don’t get shared as much in G+ is testament to this and is a strength, not a weakness.

For a perfect example of one of these niches, have a look at my blog post on Heather Fay.

  • I guess I need to spend some time on Twitter.  I really just don’t get it.  I have asked several friends and colleagues who seem to be as ignorant as I am about Twitter.  Can some one help shed some light on the Twitter phenomenon?  Appreciate any insight on what I am missing.  : )

  • @rich-brooks  @dianebianchi I share A LOT on my Twitter accounts. Until they role out the scheduling for Facebook shares, I’m less likely to do so.  Also, I haven’t seen that option on the Facebook app so I’m unable to share via mobile unless I use an outside service like Buffer. I tend to share outside material to LinkedIn vs. sharing within the platform itself.

  • Numbers like these don’t persuade me to use a specific network over another.  You really need to keep in mind the varied audiences for each network and go where your customers are.
