What form do you prefer for consuming information? (8 posts)

  • I love to read (for business and pleasure). How do you prefer to consume information: audio, video, text, or a combination of these? If you are a reader, are you partial to hard copy or e-reading?

  • I am still old-school and prefer reading over video. Of late though, if I am buying business books, they are ebooks. (Specifically, I prefer Kindle, even though I read them using the Kindle app on my iPad)

The only category of books I still purchase in hard-cover are the classics; I just like having them around. :)

  • Iv always been a visual learner so I’m going to go with videos!

  • I like written word best, and e-reading tops the list. I do like audios and videos, but these sometimes take too long to get to the point. I can read a transcript in 1/3rd of the time it takes to listen to an audio or video; so if I’m trying to get information quickly, written word is the way I choose.

  • @debbielynnava I am a complete mixture. I love reading on my Kindle but am still equally happy with a book. But, lots of business related articles I find difficult to read either online or on the computer as a pdf…I think this is because I am usually looking at another browser or something so I can test or learn, so it’s easier to print it out and refer to the material.

So, I keep lots of articles filed in pdf, and when I am working on a particular thing, I look thru them to see what I’ve got, and then likely will print one I need.

But, I am a tactile learner, so doing along with either reading or video is the easiest for me. Audio alone is still my least favorite.

  • Thanks for the great feedback. With all these different viewpoints, I’m even more convinced that content format needs to be tailored to the end user’s needs.

    <a href="mailto:r@calevans“>@calevans You’re right–the electronic version of a classic just doesn’t feel the same.

@sgsrecording Isn’t it great we have choices for different learning styles? Definitely go with your strength.

@dr-rachna-jain I read for the speed factor, too. I love it when someone gives me the choice to read the transcript of their audio or video.

@joanmuschampfagnani It sounds like you’ve found exactly what works best for you (or at least what works best outside of a live workshop setting).

  • I actually prefer paper.  To me sitting down, reading a newspaper, book, magazine, printed out article from the computer are all very relaxing and quietingly focused. I just read something today that said ready a book or such for  30 minutes before going to sleep actually lets our brain relax into the sleep mode.

  • @trudy I think you’re right about reading before bed unless you can’t put the book down.
