Website Hosting (13 posts)

  • Has anyone used Network Solutions for hosting a small site? It seems they have and easy plug in for  a Word Press blog, which is attractive.

What I am looking for is ease of use and reliability.

Any info or other suggestions appreciated

    Thanks!

    Joan

  • I use fatcow. You can use all sorts of blogging platforms. I’ve found their user interface to be pretty intuitive

  • @michaelmurphy thanks for the suggestion. i will take a look.

I’m using DreamHost (http://dreamhost.com/) for one of my projects. Their service and support never let me down, and they send out a witty newsletter every month.

You’ll also get many “one click install” options that let you install WordPress (and other software) very easily.

  • @joanmuschampfagnani I used to use Network Solutions, as well as their website builder template.

I switched my website over to Wordpress this last summer and have it hosted on Bluehost.com.  I have been very happy with their service and their pricing and they also have a one click install option for Wordpress.  I highly recommend them.

  • It does appear a few offer the one click install options. I have heard NetSol is reliable, which is important.

Thanks @lisaschulteis, @peterurfer, and @michaelmurphy. It’s time for me to not be timid–I have always worked for tech companies who did the technical build and delivered what I asked for, functionality-wise, so I am a bit spoiled. I have used several different CMS’s, so it’s not foreign. Just need to jump in!

And yes, I agree having the right content and good blog posts will be the longer term challenge.

Anyone of those are going to be fine. The key is to find a hosting company that will allow for your website’s to grow in both server space and bandwidth.

Hostmonster, Host Gator, and Network Solutions are all great hosting companies that will give you a lot of flexibility, and their pricing is very fair.

  • We started with 1&1 hosting about 5 years ago with their 3 free years package. It was hard to use and getting software installed (Joomla, Wordpress) was more difficult than it should have been. The dashboard interface was hard to use and confusing. Memory was limited to 32MB so I looked around and found HostGator.

Lots to love about HostGator but the one thing we REALLY like is their support. We use the instant chat feature quite a bit (because “stuff” happens) and get our problems resolved right away. Great for beginners and non-techie bloggers.

1&1 has cheap domains (usually less than $10) so I keep those there but we are hosted by HostGator. My 2 cents …

  • I’ve been using HostGator, They use fantastico so installing WordPress is a breeze. They have a newsletter and great support (so far in my experience). The other nice touch is I got a coupon to use with Google Adwords in the mail. Can’t say that will always be the case, but it was nice.

  • bluehost is easy and reliable and reasonably priced.

  • I’ve used Dreamhost for about 5 years now and I love them.

  • I’ve been with 1and1 for 10 years now and have hundreds of clients also hosting  with them. A couple years ago I had a site doing close to 100 gigs a day on a managed server and they never missed a beat.

@terryg Some of their php protocols are finicky with out of the box open source applications but are easily addressed.

With 6months free on select packages, they are worth taking a look at. http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=19280088  (shameless affiliate link)

  • Hi Joan! I use ManiacHost hosting for my websites and they have an excelent service, also they have a lots of applications and Wordpress Blog Hosting that makes easier to manage a page using wordpress, because it has preinstalled wordpress and you won´t have troubles using it.

I like it because they have an excellent support and good prices, i love it, also they has cheap domains, sometimes from less than $5
