Website Content (4 posts)

  • My rule of thumb in website creation is to keep copy compelling and simple, but offer an avenue to get more details if a reader wants.

What do you like to see when it’s simply too much copy to describe every bullet point on one page?

  • I use the two oldie but goodies:  Link and Split.  I am not overfond of looooong pages.  A monitor is not a printed page, and it is harder to read.  So I use lots of open space, images, outlines and keep the page as short as possible while still covering the topic.  In the best of worlds, my copy is utterly un-put-down-able, but we rarely live in the best of worlds — lol.

  • @joanmuschampfagnani, @bplanmaster   I am really interested in comments on this. As a volunteer for Basset Hound Resue of Al, I am in charge of oversite on our new website.  I do like the idea  of the content filling the screen and not being long.  How many words or characters do you estimate that to be.

  • Links are great IF there is enough clear, compelling content to make you want to dig deeper. Otherwise, a concise bulleted or numbered list gives those who scan (instead of reading every word) the key points and a “Read more” leads to the complete article or explanation.
