Webshop for small business (5 posts)

  • A client of mine needs to redo her webshop and since her previous supplier is too expensive, she asks me for alternatives.

I have no experience in building webshops. Is there something available that let’s me easily build a webshop? Something like Joomla or Wordpress, where I don’t need programmer skills. She only sells one product (and one spare part for it) – so we just need something simple.

What have you used? Which tools are safe and which ones would you not recommend (reg hacking, manipulation etc)?

    Any tipps, tricks, warnings? Thanks!

  • Hello.

Is this international sales? Or just sales in the U.S.?  Does she already accept credit cards or does she use PayPal (clickbank, etc) for payments?

There are a few questions to be answered before any recommendations can be forthcoming.  At least for me there is.

  • FWIW, I use Storenvy as an adjunct to my website. It’s extremely user-friendly; pretty much fill-in-the-blanks store building. And it’s free.

Storenvy supports international shipping, but they haven’t managed to set up the coding to allow store owners to block it, if they only ship to the US. Sellers can set up appropriate taxes. The only payment option is PayPal.

Since she only has 1 product and 1 part, I can’t think of anything else that might be an issue.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks, @julie-g-hughes, I will check this out.

@supereb, she’s actually selling in Austria (and as way of exception in Switzerland and Germany, too). I think so far, she used PayPal.

  • @claudiapoeckl I have heard great things about Volusion. I see it advertised all the time and I have a friend that has some experience with it and discussed it over lunch recently.

For quick and down and dirty web shop, I have looked at Coffee Cup Software’s shopping cart program. Went thru the tutorial and built a little fake store as a personal challenge. Pretty neat tool.
