Web Content Mangement Systems (17 posts)

  • I’m looking for Web Content Management System software.  Has this topic been covered?  If so, could you direct me to the links,  or….can we start a discussion?

  • I absolutely recommend WordPress. Everything you need – easy to manage, completely customizable, …

  • Thanks Melissa

  • Wordpress is great. What are wanting to do with the content management software? @dongrandy

  • I’m looking for a central repository for the content that I’m creating, sending, receiving and updating.

  • @dongrandy @melissaagnes @deairby

I second (or third) the motion about WordPress. Specifically, self-hosted WordPress.org, NOT WordPress.com (the free blog hosting service).

  • Yes, Laura is right – definitely host your own site (with a company other than Wordpress I mean!) and purchase your own domain :) if you’re gonna do it, you’ve got to do it right – it will be so worth it in the short and long run!

  • Got It, thanks for the help

  • @dongrandy

    WordPress +1.

  • @dongrandy WordPress +1000 There is no easier CMS system out there! It’s perfect for optimization too!

  • Yep, WordPress is a great CMS and web publishing system for all of the previouisly mentioned reasons. @dongrandy It should be perfect for your needs. Good luck with it.

  • word to the press… i appreciate the “tagging” & “category” aspect of WP

  • For CMS I’d say Drupal. WordPress is good but for collaborative full fledged website building you need something with more scope and power. Below is a list of CMS systems at Wikipedia. Although it may not be complete, it is a starting place.

    One Wikipedia CMS List

Depending on what you may need, there is also more than one list available.
I recommend Drupal as there are a lot of people who know this system, more than many others. Joomla is popular but I believe the learning curve is longer and you’d need to know quite a bit more.  Although I also know a few Joomla developers/designers, that list is shorter and more specialized (for knowledgeable people).

If you have hosting with (the real) cPanel, Fantastico De Luxe is often included. In Fantastico De Luxe, WordPress is still listed under Blogs (correctly so) and listed under Content Management (CMS) you will (or may) find these listed and available to activate:

    Drupal – Geeklog – Joomla 1.5 – Mambo – PHP-Nuke – phpWCMS – phpWebSite – Siteframe – TYPO3 – Xoops – Zikula

Although a short list, these are considered main stream and have many followers, so it may be easier to find an experienced webmaster to help develop or run your site.

  • Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

  • @ Don Grandy
I visited your site and viewed your video (3 questions) – very nice. :D
I hope your project is going forward for you too. Have a great day.

  • Gotta say Wordpress here 2! Why ? – easy of use, lots & lots of options, basically any & everything you need.
