VOIP for business. Pros vs. Cons (6 posts)

Topic tags: internet phone, mobile, skype
  • Do you use VoiP? What do you use? Why?

  • I use Skype for my main Business line.

Pro’s : I travel and I have an office in Europe and in the States. This way I can call any US number for the same unlimited Yearly install fee. Unlimited incoming and outgoing calls to US and Canada.

Con’s: people do not accept my calls because the number comes up as unknown. Skype recently changed this. Terrible customer support.

  • All of our office phones are VoiP. We have multiple staff making international calls daily and VoiP is just more cost effective for us. Call quality is a compromise though, but not by much.

  • The one Con I see for Skype at our home is comcast. The darn service was dropping for a second 20 times a day, so Skype calls were lost (NOT a Skype issue).

I use Skyp on my iPhone and have used it on the Droid for international calls. Wonderful service.

  • I use MagicJack and Skype and they both work great. One thing though: if you have a very busy or poor internet connection, your call and sound quality drops fast and intermittant. The common complaint is “you sound like a robot” when it happens, and it can be a problem with either caller’s connection when both using VoiP. Also, make sure the computer you’re tied into has plenty of memory if you run lots of programs while using any VoiP or you can experience the same problems. All in all, it’s the way to go.

  • All,I’m closing this thread as it’s a dup.
