Virtual Assistant for social media updates? (14 posts)

  • Hi All,

I have been reading a post from month ago about experiences working with a Virtual Assistant (VA).

I am thinking of going down that road and specialise in updating Facebook Pages, Twitter and Pinterest business accounts.  In addition to general duties and updating websites to sending out MailChimps.

What I would like to know is whether there’s much call out there for this kind of assistance?

I am based in the UK and currently run all my own Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest pages.

    Best wishes,

    Juliet

  • Juliet, many businesses need help with social media management. That being said, however, convincing them that they need it is a whole different problem.

I do LinkedIn in addition to the ones you mention.

  • @julietd There is definitely a need.  I get clients asking for Social Media Strategies and Social Media set-up with their new accounts.  Once I have done that, I either train them to do their own Social Media Maintenance or ask them if they want me to do it.  Often they will go with the training to start, thinking they can do it and end up coming back to me because they can’t find the time.  I do Facebook, LinkedIn, Google +, Twitter, Pinterest, You Tube, etc.  I also set-up Excel Sheets like Social Media Posting Schedules for them to follow in an on-going basis and more recently a lot of clients just don’t know how to find content for their blogs or their posts, so I have created a Publishing Schedule for them – setting up Google Alerts with relevant keywords to capture content to share and get ideas for their blog posts.  They are happy with these methods to get them organized and move forward but frequently they just can’t find the time to follow through.

  • Thank you @Anita Cohen-Williams for your feedback – I completely agree with you and one of my hardest challenges is for businesses to understand that setting up an account is only the start… :-)

  • Sorry @anitacohen-williams – just realised i tagged you wrong… thanks again for your input :-)

  • Hi @dcoville001 thanks for your input. This is how I started out but I am finding that I am taking on other types of work such as updating websites and mailchimp which I have experience in. What you do sounds similiar to my own business but I think I need to repackage it as a Virtual Assistant.

I hope you don’t mind me asking but how to do market your services?

    Best wishes,

    Juliet

  • Whups, I forgot Google Plus!

  • @julietd Yes…our services are similar because I find that in setting them up in Social Media, one of the first things I do is check their website and make suggestions for making it “visitor ready” with “calls to action”.  As the client understands that Social Media is one of the best Inbound Marketing strategies to their website, often they ask me to do the updates to their ste as well.  I do Wordpress but not Joomla.

In answer to your question, I have been a Virtual Assistant for almost 8 years and only since 2008 did I niche to Inbound Marketing services.  I had already done the majority of my marketing within Social Media and have had great success getting referrals from alliance VA’s who don’t do Social Media but know that I do and through my blog posts in Social Media channels, but I also have connections that have approached me directly from my marketing online.  I have also establshed a presence locally through various Facebook groups particularly in my area (central Ontario).

If you are going to go the VA route, join VA organizations – there are many!  And these groups almost always offer potential clients the opportunity to post RFP`s (Request for Proposal) that the VA`s can submit for – I gained many clients that way too.  I have a listing of some of the best ones on my website in the Resources section:  http://www.alternativeofficeassistance.com/resources/

  • @dcoville001 many thanks that is really helpful.  I will have a good look at the resources on your website.  Do you have a Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest account I can follow?

Facebook groups are a great idea and I will look into that.

    Best wishes,

    Juliet
