Video Style Preferences (3 posts)

  • There are all kinds of differently formatted videos across the Internet and YouTube for business.

I have seen highly professional, well done videos. And I’ve seen more casual videos for business. Nothing flashy. Just a person behind a desk with no music or interesting animations.

What do you think stands out more. Highly professional with bells and whistle’s or casual?

  • @donpurdum Hi Don, I think the style is determined by the goal you have in mind when creating the video.

Vision Critical is a market research firm so telling their corporate story is about getting them big, corporate clients who think Vision Critical is cutting edge and innovative in their approach and advanced in their research tools. So, a highly professional video does that the best: http://vimeo.com/25040862

A more casual video, like my 1 Minute Market Tips, is bottom-basement on production costs because the value I’m selling is knowledge that can be conveyed verbally. My goal is to do a video a day (business day anyway) so the audience expectation on production values is low, but high on content. My goal is to communicate what I know, not display high-tech skills.http://www.youtube.com/user/somisguided?feature=mhee

Great question. I’m eager to see what others say.

  • I agree with @moniquesherrett about it depending on your goal.  Who is your audience?  Also what is your product or service?  If your potential customer is a high level professional and they are purchasing your high dollar product, then you would want the bells and whistles.  They want to know they are getting a high quality product and a professional video will portray that.

If I am buying a new car, I want a cool, flashy video to see how the car looks inside and out.  If I am buying a fairly low cost item or service, casual works for me.  Maybe think about starting small and casual, see how it works, get some feedback and make a decision to upgrade from there.  Marketing should be implemented, then analyzed, then adjusted to what you learn from your feedback.
