Video editing software (21 posts)

  • My company really wants to start creating more videos for YouTube and for blogging, but I’m not sure what video editing software we should invest in.

Windows Movie Maker is easy to use, but it crashes quite a bit. So does Corel VideoStudio 5.

    Any suggestions?

  • Why are you just using You Tube? Are they just informational videos? Or are the for branding your company?

  • I’ve had a lot of success with Sony Vegas Pro. It’s fairly easy to use and so far I haven’t had any problems with it.

  • Camtasia by Tech Smith.  Hands down.  Will cost $300 but rocks!  You can edit to your hearts content and get high quality videos.  Tech Smith also has the free Jing software. It does 5 min. videos with no editing.

Camtasia’s new version (8) was released recently. Right now, you can find a discount on upgrade packages.

  • I agree with Randi & Don. I’ve used the free Jing software and works great.

  • @roadturn  Thank you Don.  I already have it!  :)   Camtasia has made such a difference in my business.  There is a learning curve, but if I can do it, anyone can.

  • Camtasia is the best by far, if you Google “Camtasia OEM” you can get it at a massive discount.

  • Alright, yall! Now you know how much of a “My Man Jing” fan I am. So much so that TechSmith had a chuckle over my grieving letter for the demise of the paid version of my man Jing — asking them to let this poor widow lady opt-in to a full bodied hunky Camtasia.

That being said… I’ve been stepping out on my new Camtasia beau… sneaking around with my new free Squeeze… drumroll, please… ProShowWeb. Okay, okay, I must admit I didn’t really catch his full name before we got intimate and started messing around. Needless to say, I’m now madly in love and I don’t know this acrobatic hunkadorable dude’s name, lol!!!

Anyway, he’s FREE as a bird, doesn’t charge outrageous commercial fees like so-called free animoto, and his output is just exquisite! (He does have a small monthly commercial fee IF you want to download without his branding).

I’d say I’d be happy to share him with yall… but not too certain about that, so here’s the link before I regret it:

Please excuse my obvious copywriting delirium…. Think I stayed up too late trying to dot too many t’s and cross my eyes. Just hmmmmm…

  • Here are two FREE vids I made with the free version of ProShowWeb at photodex:

    Sherry Cook Art Collectionhttp://youtu.be/t_79mENQ1Do
My Sister — A Victoria Simmons Art Collectionhttp://youtu.be/_FVpkn4Ox_o
This was just an experiment… and I would redo the slides I used from FREE Open Office Impress… but I love the music and flow of both of these. And after the first renditions, which ended too soon before all pictures were shown, I simply hit a button, changed the tempo/speed of the picture flow, hit another button, and it re-rendered the videos until it timed the endings perfectly… or so I recall.

  • Now this one… no affiliate link or correct product name attached, I assure you… was made with Open Office Impress and Microsoft MovieMaker.

It’s called “Robin Carlisle Reviews: Rapid Affiliate Profits by Tom Ness”… (woopsy, wrong name, so just an example)… but is the happy-sad story of Ling Ling and…

…basically my first attempt at using Open Office Impress and Microsoft MovieMaker without a manual, lol!

Still… I have a certain fondness for Ling Ling… and I hope Tom Ness forgives me for putting him on the spot like that with… well… you’ll see…

  • @atlantarobin ok, you got my attention with this pro show.. how do you clip a video so it is smaller? I like what I see and it looks better then microsoft movie maker. For some reason Movie Maker takes a long time and the quality when finished is worse when you publish it. Thanks for the info, I do appreciate it.

  • @afung604 Youtube can help bring views, but the question is what are you using to bring people to the site? How about allowing them to see your video- no matter how long it is and then when completed it is automatically forwarded to your site. Let me know and I can give you more details.

  • Thanks for sharing Pro Show Web @RobinCarlisle it’s a great find :-)

  • Awesome- did a short video- going to do more to it.. if you want to see let me know? Very easy to use, point and click and change in matter of minutes. Was not on my Things to Do, but did it anyways :) Thanks again  @atlantarobin

  • @afung604 I use Windows Live Movie Maker for basic editing and that works just fine. Since I’m using Windows it didn’t cost a thing :)

  • Thanks for the great suggestions here @atlantarobin and @randithompson . I’m definitely going to check out Pro Show Web and Camtasia. I’ve also read some good reviews on PowerDirector 10. Anyone try that?

@mikedigaetano @prestonodenbrett we decided to stick with YouTube since it’s still the most popular video sharing site. In terms of actually sharing the videos, we have a great network of Realtors as well as our other social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, blog, e-newsletters) that will help draw people’s attention to our YouTube account. Any other suggestions would be very helpful.

  • @kimberlycarlo I tried Windows Live Movie Maker and you’re right, it did the trick for basic editing. For me the program tended to freeze a lot when I tried to edit larger files so I’m hoping to find a program that’s a little more powerful.

  • thanks for the great info on this thread, Miss Robin! @atlantarobin

  • @afung604 That is great.. How about sharing your youtube video to all your partners by sending them a email with a video on it. Not something that goes to youtube, but that goes to your site once your Youtube video is finished. They can easily forward this to their contacts and you can brand not only your video but also the email you send to your contacts. Msg me and I will give you more details.. Can’t just send a link through this system.. I got in trouble last time, don’t want to loose my membership.

  • Got a link to a new favorite video/slideshow creator today… called EZVid… which ups the game of Windows Movie Maker. It’s the first to add voice synthesis to the free video production game, as well an extremely high quality video picture that actually does justice to screencasting live video games during play. Yes, it screencasts, too.

I read their Terms of Service and it looks good for limited commercial use, okaying self-promotion, promoting your company, and your clients, but no monetization, etc.

Also, it seems to have a good royalty-free music library whose clips CAN be uploaded to YouTube on your videos. You’ll still get the message/flag that you’ve included “copyrighted” work, but YouTube routinely OKs this as it’s their online network that okayed the entire collection for upload use, but NOT for monetization. So if the rights do change, it seems YouTube will re-inform you and then you can go from there. No penalty, it seems. It’s part of YouTube’s contract with EZVid.

Haven’t had a chance to test this out yet. I did, however, watch all the video examples and short training promos on the pages. Looks really good… and with the voice synthesis of text to speech, that’s going to draw a whole lot of folks that way.
