VCard or HCard tags…Mystery? Myth? or Helpful? (5 posts)

Topic tags: hcard, local business, vcard
  • I was recently reading a few articles about the vcard tags and was curious how many of you in this forum use them. What results have you had with them?

For those that do not know what they are, it is a way of formatting data with tags that follow the standard vcard format for online business cards.Tags are like this:  div class=”vcard” with classes for fn (family name) org (organization) plus address, state, etc. They are basically meta tags for your location.

  • @bob-green

I will often receive them as attachments on emails, and for some people it’s automatically attached to every email they send out.

    (cough) overkill (cough)

I haven’t used them much myself for business, however.

  • @rich-brooks  I was directing it more towards the tagging of the signature on you web pages and footer credits. Wondering if the geo tags actually help your (or client’s blogs) show up more on proximity searches like Google Places, etc.

    Yeah, email attached vcards…annoying. Ignored.

There is a whole “schema” tagging move that seems to be stirring. Read the front page of this site: http://schema.org/ which is making the microformat schema seem as important as a sitemap.

  • I have seen it when I think I used Microsoft outlook, but have not used it for years..

  • Y’all are still missing the point of my conversation. I most likely missled the topic from the beginning. Not email vcards. Go check out the http://www.schema.org site.  It is for content categorization and tagging on web pages. @prestonodenbrett
