Using social media as a recruitment tool (8 posts)

  • Hi all, does anyone have some suggestions or ideas as to how I might best utilise social media (or any other online tools) to attract market research participants? I am currently using Twitter and LinkedIn with some degree of success and am gradually building a following, but feel that there is so much untapped potential I’m missing through ignorance or otherwise!

  • what is your topic? do you have a blog? are you following back your twitter followers? have you done a #search on twitter? @speakyourmind

  • No blog as yet (not quite sure how to start and what direction to take with it, as don’t want it to die a quick sad death); follow most back, unless they are completely out of my market (eg o/seas); do lots of searches on twitter.

  • topic varies from project to project, in essence it is consumer products and services, occasionally government, not for profit and so on.

  • You can take a look on the FB page of Consumer Opinion Services, what they do and how they recuite people for their surveys using Social Media. I used to follow them on FB. There are more companies on FB doing the same, just use the word Survey on the search area to find them. @speakyourmind

  • I’m also interested in using social media for research.My target would be small and medium business owners or sales/marketing people using social media.- Online surveys, perhaps promoted through Facebook and twitter?- SMB forums

    Anything else?

  • @speakyourmind You might check out Netbase for ideas on social media research after you find your participants. Look at what Nielsen, Scarbourough, GfK MRI or Arbitron does since they’re big research players.

    @gkrakus Maybe reach out to your local Chambers of Commerce since many are built with the membership of small businesses. Economic Development agencies would also have contacts to small businesses.

  • Don’t know if this will help, but if you belong to a LinkedIn group, you can poll the group. Members can choose from up to 5 options you provide. Don’t think open-ended answers are allowed.
