using online crowdfunding for creative projects? (13 posts)

  • Crowdfunding is an online opportunity to raise funds for creative projects from recording a cd to manufacturing a prototype to launching a magazine. Two that I am aware of are kickstarter and indiegogo but there are many more. I used kickstarter to fund the printing of my cookbook, A Dollop and A Pinch: Recipes and Stories from The Baron York. I was just wondering if anyone else has used these services and how successful was it for you?

  • I tried to use CauseVox, The Point, and others similar to them to try to get money to genereta social and ecological project, and I founded no one is going to give me money if they don´t recibe something. That is what I´m dealing right now and what I am going to do for the next year.

We are focusing this in tow directions.

    1. Generate Web Strategies to help them to sell more and afther that rise some money.
    2. We are generating a Loyelty card where if they sell we help some project they want to do it. And still can use other services to collect the projects.

Hope some one can give me advise on how is USA Market, if it is the same here in Mexico

  • A few months back, I used gofundme to raise funds for a project. I did not see that one in OP’s list.

  • @bi2green yes, Gabriel, the incentives help to raise money. When I used kickstarter for my cookbook, I was basically pre-selling to get the printing money up front. This worked. I know that wepay.com has a donation button for strictly asking for contributions without receiving anything. What you have to have in place is a contact list of people to reach, no service gives you the people. @jimsyyap and it was successful? how much did you raise?

  • Thanks, for the Info.

Does any one know a Wordpress Theme that can help CrowdFounding?

  • @bi2green That’s an interesting question, don’t know that there is, crowd funding is on its own site, I believe.

  • I looked up on plug-ins for wordpress and found Crowd Funding 0.5.  I might give it a try.  Payments can come in from Paypal.”SiteOrigin’s Crowd Funding uses PayPal to allow your visitors to commit to funding your project. You only charge them after you reach a target you set. It’s an all or nothing funding system – much like Kickstarter.”

  • I like Indie go go, as I could keep all the money I raised whether I reached my goal or not.

  • i didn’t know that about Indi go go. what was your project and how much of your goal did you raise? @mari-lynharris

  • I only raised $500.00..at least I got to keep it all.

  • what was your project and what was your goal?@mari-lynharris

  • Raising money for a pie business and my goal was $10,000 seed capital. sedonapies.com. Needless to say, I didn’t raise the $$ so I closed the doors in Aug 2011. Perhaps down the road, the timing could of been off.

  • timing can be everything! are you still hoping one day? @mari-lynharris
