Twitter’s Follow Fridays (8 posts)

  • I was wondering how you decide which handles to mention in your follow Fridays or happy Thursdays or what the follow reason. For my personal account, I generally look through my followers to promote them. For my work account, I am trying to learn which accounts might be ok to mention (ad agencies can be touchy).

Also, are you consistent about doing #FF every week or is it more random?

Looking for a method to this madness :)

  • Two things I don’t do on Twitter: #FF or any other day of the week, and Thank you for following. I think of them as spam, and I find it annoying when I see those in my timeline.

Instead, every day I skim through my timeline to find quality posts to RT; that’s my way of promoting people. If a new client of mine is on Twitter or FB, I do a post to highlight him/her and the business.

In the end, it’s about personal preference. Whatever you decide to do, I hope it works for you!

  • I agree with @karenataylor–many #FF lists are people retweeting a list with their name in it. RT something of value instead. I do like it when someone says, “follow my friend @___ because _____ (a great reason to follow).”

  • @debbielynnava I agree to give a reason to follow. But, generally I feel a RT of a good post is more effective in getting my attention. @karenataylor I agree it is a good practice to do a hightlight post if you can

  • @kc_kreative Hello Kristy,

I have been lazy with #FF lately, but I used to do it almost every week. To me, it was a way to acknowledge the folks I had interacted with during the week, who’s post I thought was insightful, or a new discovery, i.e. a blog I wasn’t aware of but that posts awesome content.

For example, when attending a conference on the Tuesday and Wednesday, you connect with new peoples, so I would do a special #FF for that conference and mention those new found friends made a few days earlier.

Indeed, it’s a personal choice, and I don’t RT when people mention me. However, I have found #FF useful when folks I trust take the time to single out like-minded tweeps. I now follow many of them, so it’s an interesting way to find interesting people on Twitter.

  • @fredericgonzalo I like the conference idea. Hopefully I’ll find a happy medium for our association. It’s a matter of learning all the players at this point.

  • @fredericgonzalo @kc_kreative
I tend to select tweeps that have responded to me in some way. Some weeks there are a few and some weeks none. I do try to do it every week, but on occasion work gets in the way!

  • @flosmwizards I’m just trying to keep up with my personal Twitter feed now that I have a work one to manage :) I like you’re idea of engagement – more than just a RT.
