Twitter – Business or Personal? (7 posts)

  • I started a Twitter account long before I started my own business.  I never used it much but have been more so (Following, not so much being followed) in the past 6 months.  My question is do you think it’s better to start over with my business name (for consistency) or just keep it as is with my personal?

My business is Creative Marketing Innovations and my twitter is @gkaye.

Look forward to hearing from you!

  • I have a personal (@lesliecoty) and a business (@cotyconnections) Twitter account. I get way more interaction and follows on my personal account. My business account is only business; my personal one is a combination of business and personal tweets. What are others in this club doing? (Gina, I’ll follow you on Twitter.)

  • @ginaschnathorst

I have two Twitter accounts, one @therichbrooks which is personal, and one @flytenewmedia which is for my company.

(Actually I have another for a conference I put on called @socialmediaFTW and then one for a weird side project called @zombieipsum. Oh, and then there’s a hidden one for venting of stuff I can’t say.)

I use my “personal” account for talking about both work and life, as that’s how I am. I use my “business” account to stay more on message. I think there’s a lot of benefits to having multiple accounts on Twitter.

Maybe you could keep your personal one for you, but add another one that’s biz specific.

  • I really appreciate your input Rich.  I’ve been struggling with this one!

  • @ginaschnathorst  I use my twitter account for business and personal reasons but I do have some other twitter accounts that I use for specific blog.

  • @ginaschnathorst I also use several twitter accounts. One for personal (interacting with friends, others in my profession and fellow book lovers!) and several for work.  You could use Hootsuite to manage both your personal and business accounts.  Then you only have to log in once!

  • I manage 2 accounts  - the one that is in my name (@SWrightBoucher) is just as professional as the business account I manage.  My reasoning: Twitter is where I find my best book recommendations, links to online learning resources and good info on leadership development and social media.  It’s also part of my overall career management plan.

I have found that people will follow an account with a personal name attached to it more quickly than they will an unknown brand.

Facebook is where I keep the softer, more personal comments, which I only share with family and close friends by way of FB lists.
