Twitter Background Designs (17 posts)

  • I was going to ask for help in bradning Twitter page backgrounds for those of us who are relative newbies.

But, @kristi-hines has this great post http://blog.crazyegg.com/2012/02/09/twitter-background-more-traffic/

    Thanks!

  • @joanmuschampfagnani Thanks for the excellent examples. If you’re handy with PowerPoint, etc. you can create your own basic background. It is what I did for my page. There are plenty of free options out there too I’m sure.

  • @kc_kreative I will check into the Power Point options, too. I can only do so much at once, and getting my website design better is a higher priority.

  • @joanmuschampfagnani I did it because I had time not money :) The resources that  @kristi-hines mentions in her article are definitely reasonably priced.

  • @kc_kreative I agree they are reasonable, but like you I have a lineup of things wanting or needing my money, so I prioritize. Where I can spend time and do something that works is good, so I invest were I don’t have the skills and things are priorities.

  • @joanmuschampfagnani I did a quick search. Here are some free background tools, though I have not personally tried them. Maybe one of our fellow Clubbers can chime in for us?

  • @joanmuschampfagnani Thanks for sharing my post!  :)

  • @kc_kreative  @joanmuschampfagnani   I suggested the design services because I usually have very, very little patience when it comes to design.  The background on my own Twitter profile was designed by me, but it took forever and it’s not that great.

Sometimes I look at it from the perspective of yes, I could save $100 by doing it myself.  But what if it takes me 5 hours to search for the right template and customize it?  Alternatively, I could take one hour to think up an idea, send in a form detailing what I want, and make a $100 payment.  That leaves me another 4 hours to do client work where I earn $600.  That would make paying someone else to do my design better financially.  :)

  • Something I’ve found with playing with Twitter backgrounds: When you first load your background, you might have to wait awhile (anywhere from an hour to a day) for the change to actually take place.

This matters because: If you change the background but it looks like it didn’t take, you might go back & try again… and again… so that by the time the Twitter background does change, it isn’t clear which version of your uploads actually worked.

In short: When changing Twitter backgrounds, load the new background and then – if it doesn’t change right away – wait. It might just take some time to update.

    :-)

    @kristi-hines

I use the template from 38 Pages  that @kc_kreative  refers to.

Though it is older and doesn’t reflect twitters current “look” it still marks the various screen sizes so you know how much of your design will show for different screen resolutions.

  • @juleswebb  @joanmuschampfagnani Only thing to watch out for with old templates is if you will see all of the important info with the new Twitter layout.  Best way to be sure is to load your Twitter profile when logged out and when logged in to be sure.

  • @joanmuschampfagnani

@kristi-hines  That’s a good point. I looked it up and the width of the current content area is 875px. In the template on  38 Pages  it’s 763px.

It’s important to remember that because the content area will always be centered, how much of your bkground will still depend on screen size. On smaller devices your bkgound will not be legible

  • @joanmuschampfagnani @kc_kreative nice topic, apart from using easy to use tools and services mentioned by  @kristi-hines, if anyone is able to use basic design tools like photoshop, it will be great! Just use below guidelines:

    • Max dimensions: 1400pxx1000px
    • Use social media icons at either sides with specific account links
    • Use logo on top left corner
    • Use products/services images on either side.
    • Use business website related theme/background color.
    • Example:  https://twitter.com/#!/AlAmeenHospital

  • Thanks for the helpful information and links. I did a fairly simple background on my twitter to get going awhile back, but do believe I will spend a bit more time on it with photoshop and/or check out some of the links as well.
I took a look at yours Moin and looks sharp.

  • @kristi-hines I understand your point about having someone else do it can be much more profitable. But, it all depends on how much time you have available, and money. (such a trial in life, money being such a facilitator) :)

  • Hello Folks.

I’ve been trying to follow you folks; that are commenting in this thread. I love twitter backgrounds and look at them when following new folks.

Mine is @SuperEB and is a self designed background. I know it doesn’t work for every resolution but such is life. I get an awful lot of complements on it so know it is good, at least for my followers!  It’s silly and somewhat frivolous but it is also fun.

The problem with resolution doesn’t bother me much as everyone knows this is a problem with twitter backgrounds. I just added the right side info in the last few days when the newest layout took effect for everyone.

Since I own and/or manage over 100 websites and more than a dozen blogs, I design twitter backgrounds for clients as an add-on service.

And I’ve been trying to follow some of you folks too (at twitter too), while I’m learning my way around the SM Examiner.

    :D

  • Just wanted to throw out something if you’re on a tight budget … there’s a site called Fiverr where you can get various projects done for $5. There are people there who will create Twitter backgrounds (just type that into the search box).

I’ve used a number of people from Fiverr for various types of projects and been pleased with the results about 90% of the time. If you’re concerned about the quality, look for someone who has been rated highly.

@kc_kreative- thanks for compiling that list of sites!
