Twitter Ads get the ONE thing they were missing (2 posts)

  • A few weeks ago I was talking about Twitter advertising and if anyone had tried it. Few of the group had, and fewer still had something positive to say about it.

I actually got some good results from it, but there was one thing missing…targeting.

Now you can target your small business ads based on how someone’s accessing Twitter (iOS, desktop, etc), their gender, interests, location and more.

Here’s an article I found at Tech Crunch about it: http://techcrunch.com/2013/03/18/twitter-now-lets-self-serve-advertisers-target-ads-based-on-interests-device-or-sex/

If you’re using Twitter and looking to build an audience or drive Twitter traffic to a specific opt-in page, this could be the ticket.

Do you think you’ll use twitter ads now?

  • HI @rich-brooks  —

Nice find!  OK Folks – don’t chop my head off over this one.  I have never been a proponent of PPC of any kind or paid ads in particular.  WAIT for it… hear me out.

All the paid ad ‘schemes’ (for lack of a better term) from the beginning have turned into more money paid out than many (most) small biz’s could afford on a regular basis and the ROI was not there most of time.  (wait)

Google on the other hand, when they jumped into the PPC arena seemed to legitimize this tactic.  But only if you had/have deep pockets and a grand marketing budget to squander (again, for lack of a better term). Although squander could be right as if all profits go right back out the door there is NO ROI.

I said all that to say this – it may be time to look at PPC for twitter IF the twitter numbers are good.  I say this for twitter and not for google as twitter has a more reasonable pricing structure.  Even some little guys could advertise on twitter, where google PPC is way too much.

I have many clients who love their G-words to death but those folks have big, bigger, and biggest marketing budgets.  IF you’re a twitter baby though and a small biz owner, this could be the ticket to some PPC that may show some actual profit – ROI.

.02 – was it worth the wait?

    Eileen
