    Most twitter links are no follow (all?) but there is still a benefit to posting videos and article links if the titles are done correctly – because then the links can be found in the search engine.

    And of course if a tweet goes viral, the benefits are enormous – exposure deluxe.

    This is the first I’ve heard that the Google shortener helps w/SEO benefit. Where did you hear that? I’m just curious b/c I usually default to bit.ly.

    I tell clients that Twitter does not generally have an SEO benefit to speak of because it’s so hard to explain the ‘How TO’ – it’s not just the Goo URL shortener.  Naming videos and images for what they represent will get them in the SERPs through twitter tweets and this comes back down to “naming conventions” for web development and design. It’s basic stuff that unless you understand architecture/navigation/structure is hard to explain.

    Probably a daft question but …..

    …does one use the shortened version time and again or does one have to regenerate a shortened version every time it is used for the same url (i.e. my website home url)?

    You should be able to use the same one but test this out on your own.  Simply use the shortened URL by plopping it into your search bar every once in awhile to make sure it takes you to the intended destination.  

    I think I have seen shortened URL’s in twitter profiles too.

    Another note – since Google can return stats on those shortened URL’s they would have to remain the same throughout time otherwise stats would be useless.
