Back to School (TOTW: 9.2.2012) (8 posts)

  • Hope everyone had a happy Labor Day weekend. With eight soccer games and a hike on Bradbury Mountain behind me, it was a success.

I’ve found that once Labor Day is behind us, people get more serious about work and business.

Do you have any plans to use social media to take advantage of this “back to school” mentality?

Is your social media marketing going to change, in message or intensity, or will you continue on as you did this summer?

  • For me, the beginning of the school year has always been is my Spring – a time for a fresh start.  I plan on using this time to identify what is working for me and change what is not.

In terms of Social Media, this means creating some “on-going” content I have been contemplating and stepping up my blog.

Whatever it means to all of you, I wish you luck!!

  • I’m definitely intensifying my and my customers’ efforts again. August was really quiet, not so much interaction, but it was a good time to catch up on everything that was waiting for getting finished.

Now is the time to send out a newsletter again, increase FB/G+ posts, add articles to the websites, send out a mailing to potential customers, visit (potential) customers etc. Full speed! :-)

  • I am always striving to increase my intensity, but what I do plan on changing for the “Back to School” mentality is using what I’ve learned about what people are interested from analyzing the analytics of my different social media accounts and concentrating more on posts using that information.

  • @rich-brooks Our messaging will be changing after a lull in August with our Fall Online University schedule, membership renewals and creating buzz about the 2013 conference. We might have a smaller lull at the end of December (Christmas break). The change was most noticeable in my Google Analytics from July to August as well as the Twitter engagement.

  • The holidays are usually the busiest time of the year for .us. (everyone doing their last minute shopping to make sure they minimize their tax bill.) and I’ve been neglecting my own marketing … So this year I’ve planned articles for the next 2 months and I’m in the process of writing them right now. Finally I’m doing for myself what I always advise people to do!,

  • great advice, Amy. @amyhallbiz Sounds like a great Labor Day weekend, Rich. With school starting I can have a little more consistent ‘writing time’ for my blogs. (homeschooling means I’m with my student!!! She works, I work.) @rich-brooks

  • @rich-brooks Not so much for me, although I do find a lot more women biz owners are more willing to pay attention now. I know from past personal experience summers can be challenging (but then again so can the school terms!). I won’t be running any themed promos, but do find networking events are better attended overall, so that’s a change.
