What’s The Best Social Media Resource? (TOTW, 7/1/2012) (12 posts)

  • Well, I mean after Social Media Examiner and all it’s related services (the Success Summits, The Networking Clubs, etc.)

    :)

What blogs, podcasts, video channels, ezines, etc., do you rely on so that you can do a better job in social media, reach a wider audience, engage at a deeper level, and do it all in less time?

  • @rich-brooks I really like Mashable but I have found gems in other places for posting to Twitter, LI or Facebook. Check out the Marketoonist – funny and smart! Found him today in a random search on creativity :)

Other sites/resources: Mari Smith, Adam Metz, Jay Baer, American Express Open Forum, Social Media For Nonprofits (@sm4nonprofit, #sm4np), Social Media Magazines, American Marketing Association and Lewis Howes. I’m sure there’s more but these are probably the most used.

    Hope this helps you!

  • how fun are these cartoons! thanks for sharing, Kristy @kc_kreative

  • i learn a lot   from watching the  competition or   others in my  world………….how  they  do it, especially  the ones with lots of  fans……mostly  grandma  mary , i  check out  a lot  of others  but   am a follower of her page…

  • I do my best to focus on one resource a month, so I have to say…Social Media Examiner. Not being a bottom kisser :) .

I have known about SME for quite some time but never thought to join this community.

To be fair to other resources out there in the internet universe, I have learned much from HubSpot.

  • @deairby Glad you liked it!  @staciewalker Hubspot does produce a lot of useful material. Marketo does too.

  • @kc_kreative Thank you for mentioning Marketo. I have never heard of them until now.

    I love this forum.

Enjoy your day, ladies and Rich:)!

  • I have an RSS feed filled with information from mostly great resources. I skim through 20+ articles each day.

Here are some of my favorites:

    • Social Media Examiner (I love learning from all of you)
    • Mashable
    • All Facebook
    • Convince and Convert (Jay is a buddy of mine and super smart)
    • Copyblogger
    • Heidi Cohen
    • Inside Facebook
    • Mari Smith
    • ReadWriteWeb
    • The Next Web

  • After the Social Media Summit in May, I jumped more into Youtube. Connecting any video you create to an article and products or services seems to meet many needs at one time.

I listened very closely to James Wedmore, bought his ebook and practiced the video idea. I then attended one of his free webinars that went over the use of Camtasia. WOW! I am using it on a trial basis now and purchasing it with Snagit in August. It is very easy to use. It is a wonderful teaching tool, sharing tool; perfect for professionally done slideshows. It even opened the door to another service for me to offer – Creating slideshows for wedding receptions.

I think I am going to offer a free service to military families that want to create a slide show for people stationed away from home.

How this all works for me: I use Hubpages because it is a very engaging community and easy to share the youtube videos. My id on there is Bridalletter. I decide on a subject, develop the products or services (in anyone elses case, it would be on existing items), create an article and create a video.

I do have a blog and I will use it more than Hubpages eventually, but I need more time to develop a worthwhile blog. In the meantime, this combo is working very well.

I think what will help me with conversion is to utilize the email leads I have, by letting them know about new videos, articles, products and services. That email program is harder to use since the company changed, but I will figure it out this month!

  • I am partial to http://www.jeffbullas.com. He is very informative on a wide range of social media topics, and he also produces/posts some great infographics.

  • @charlene-kingston — thanks for the list. What I have found is that I started building an RSS feed and it ended up taking over my life because just to skim through was taking me 30 minutes a day and I didn’t have time for it. Now I use Google Alerts ALOT. At allows me to focus on one or two topics and not get inundated. For me .. overwhelm is the greatest killer of productivity. So I use my SME and Google Alerts and I’m good to go.

  • @mikelinville Everyone has to manage their time, and whatever strategy works is great! My strategy is that I always go into Google Reader and delete anything more than 2 weeks old. And I never reach 0 items left to read. That works for me.
