How Much Is Too Much? Promoting Your Channels (TOTW: 11.11.2012) (6 posts)

  • Have you ever seen those email signature files with 15 places you could connect with someone?

Or websites that promote a dozen places you can “connect” with the company online. (Not including their website where you are RIGHT NOW!)

What do you think is the right approach to this? Share every social media profile where you can be found, or just where you’re active?

Or take a page from Derek Halpern’s (Social Triggers) book and only promote your website?

If you do limit your social media channels you promote, how do you prioritize them?

  • @rich-brooks I only promote our active platforms. That said, they can reach our lesser known sites via our website. For my “business” I only promote Twitter and LinkedIn as I don’t use Facebook professionally at this point. You don’t want to overwhelm but whet their appetite. And isn’t the ultimate goal to drive them back to your website where you have more control of the information and setting? Be interested in hearing what others have to say.

  • When we began our social media marketing ‘campaign’ we focused primarily on Facebook with a bit of Twitter.

As we realized the value in Social Networking, we aborted any outside advertising i.e. print, radio, television.

We now utilize many Social Media sites…FB, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Youtube etc.  For our business (restaurant) it’s about building a strong sense of community.

  • @rich-brooks

That’s a great question, Rich.  I used to have everything up on my primary business website, but I’ve been scaling back recently; mostly because I’m spreading myself too thin in trying to keep up with them all.

I’m using YouTube more and more, however. Short videos have helped out my web presence since the Penguin hit Google.

  • can anyone tell me how i can promote my video on youtube?

  • i only put on   the  main  3….website and  facebook and pinterest… they interact   well,  show  different sides  of   the busness and facebook and pinterest  show   an active  base of  fans/community…….

no  reason to bother wit h the ones  that havent worked out…like  yelp and google+ and linked in and you tube….  not saying those arent good…but  they arent  good  for us at this time….  we have   signed up and  dropped them …

…. i dont think  more is better…i wouldnt want someone to see us in a   place connected with us   that hasnt  had a post or  action for   weeks….

.. mainly i want folks to see the  best   places where the action is and with current   info
