Holiday Social Media Plans? (TOTW: 12.23.2012) (5 posts)

  • OK, some people have already taken off for vacation, but I’m here–nearly alone–in a cavernous office space, I’m wondering what other people are doing for holiday and marketing.

Does your social media marketing get time off, too? Do you automate your posts? Or do you take photos of your holiday dinner and post it to your business page?

  • @rich-brooks  Okay Rich….it is time for you to take off too!  ;)  I pre-scheduled my Facebook page posts and just this morning added a note saying my office is closed for the week.  Even the posts I scheduled, however, are only one a day (opposed to the 2 I normally post).  This was just to keep me somewhat active, but I truly need the break (haha).

    Happy Holidays!

  • I typically just update two holiday-themed career-help blog posts and run them each year — one is about learning about job disappointments from George Bailey’s disappointments in It’s a Wonderful Life – http://www.getajobtips.com/2012/12/4-things-george-bailey-can-teach-you.html — and one is about determining if you are really trying in your job search (with a key determinate being that you bailed on your job search way before Christmas) – http://www.getajobtips.com/2009/12/do-you-really-want-job-these-three.html. Since I figure that each year, new people are looking for work, I figure that the articles can be perennial and I don’t have to work as hard during the holidays.

  • I usually gear up with a new Merry Christmas page at one of the websites and sometimes a Happy Holiday page too, to get through to the New Year. I blast those out during the month of December and spend the traditional “holiday time” cooking and working in between family and friends visits.  I tweet, G+, and FB those pages and pin too, when I think of it.

I don’t post family photos usually as my accounts are all public.  Not to hide anything but for the safety and privacy of my family members, at their request.  I may post a dinner picture or two but never tag anyone in those photos.

No specific plans just the same thing every year.  Of course, if some new SM places come along I might jump into those but I look forward to analyzing stats for December in January and doing all the comparisons.  I think it’s fun. Heh.

  • @rich-brooks We didn’t tweet on Christmas Day and we only have a limited number of tweets this week. Many of our industry fellows have disconnected / not publishing. I am not tweeting much this week (though looking at my personal Twitter news feed because of all the cool weather systems). Facebook has some scheduled posts as well. Spending my time with family, cleaning up the house and watching movies. Life is good :)

We start winding up the buzz machine for our annual conference at the end of April. I need to rest when I can!
