Email and Social Media (TOTW: 1.14.2013) (8 posts)

  • At a number of conferences I have attended lately, there’s been a lot of discussion around list building, which in our world means email.

Wondering if you have specific strategies around building your email list through your social media activities, and how you manage it?

Or, do you feel that a Twitter following or Facebook fan base is enough?

  • ….  if  you have   brick and mortar  clients i would suggest an email list for them,…some   people  dont  do  social…and an email list is a great  other way to  connect…   .

..  we have about  4000 on our email list….  we  get the names in the store   from a sign up sheet  or   when we have an event  and the  customers  sign up  for a prize..   the list is   so  valuable  as it is  from actual  buyers  ..we can email   different  categories of our list..in our marketing  we do  facebook, email and even snail mail….. in my  iew  social  definitely isnt enough…and i love social!!!

Completely agree, even if you’re not brick and mortar. Bottom line is an opt-in email list is worth 10 times the value of the same sized Twitter following or FB fanbase in my opinion.

It’s too easy to miss most tweets, but you still have to at least click delete if you’ve opted into an email list.

  • @rich-brooks Of Course my fav is email. Partly becausenI own it. When Facebook goes the route that MySpace did and becomes a desert, I’ll still have my list. :)

  • Hi Folks @rich-brooks @annfurnivall @amyhallbiz —

There is nothing like a great email list.  I try to go a step further with sales software to make notes, record phone calls, etc..  But the email list is all about online contacts.

I use Gmail tools to do a lot what needs to be accomplished.

I don’t keep or record email addys in website email, ever.  I think those addresses are more secure off site.

  • This is a great topic.  The biggest complaint I hear about email lists is this:

“I wish I had started building my list a lot sooner”

@amyhallbiz I agree that if Facebook goes down you’ll still have your list!  That’s independent thinking :-)

  • An email list is like the old rolodex we kept of clients and prospects… it’s just automated and easier to make connections.

  • HI @rich-brooks @annfurnivall @amyhallbiz @susanhand

I left this part out – No, I don’t think a Facebook fan base or twitter followers are nearly good enough.  Those associations can help boost your email list but should not ever replace it.

I get caught up on one thing sometimes and don’t answer all the questions asked. Sheesh.
