Can you delegate social media? (TOTW: 2.18.2013) (7 posts)

  • Happy Monday everyone!

Today is President’s Day here in the US, so it got me thinking about leadership and delegation.

I know that we’ve got people on the Small Biz Club who are business owners, marketers working for small biz, and also outside consultants and contractors.

What parts of a small business’s social media marketing campaigns do YOU feel can be outsourced, and what parts need to to be done by the business themselves?

Can you outsource your voice? Can you delegate tweets?

  • i delegate  the   tekk parts  to our in house  tekk person, she keeps  the  right people in the right  email files and  handles the  constant contact and  email database and updates the  website………   ….but  would not need any help   on  facebook..ours is  daily  personal and  has  yesterdays  pictures on…. i can  do it pretty easily….and  how  could anyone else  knwo  the  right kind of  post  for the day?   that would be a lot  to  try and  communicate….

..the  best  3 facebook  pages i  know  do it all in house….and have  lots of  current  pictures and show  the  stores  personality….. one  is  growing   super fast right  now and has  her 18 yr old salesgirls     guiding  it…lol…..  those girls  know  what  the  buyers   want and  reflect  the   fun of the store perfectly…….

i would pay for someone local to   get  us organized  better…we are kind of allover the place…. our networked  computers  are  pretty  complicated apparantly….and i  cant  get my in house people to work on it….[dh for the network issues]

  • @rich-brooks I’m a virtual assistant and do quite a bit of social media posting for my clients. Clients write the posts and I upload them to the social media outlet they choose usually via HootSuite. I’ll load all their “shameless self promotion” for a month and they go into their accounts and handle all the networking. It helps them with their consistacy.

  • @amyhallbiz that sounds like a good  idea,,,a neat  mix…keeping it  real and  organized  both…

  • I recently covered this very topic in a small workshop setting.

Following is an oversimplification but you’ll get the gist. My recommendation was for the business owners to establish a plan that covers various SM channels. The plan would allow them to set the tone and style, establish consistency, serve as a benchmark and be used as a guideline by anybody who stepped into the role of SM whether in-house or not.
So in answer to your question, everything can be outsourced if needed for as long as you provide clear guidelines of what is expected. :)

  • I have delegated the “auto” stuff to my son who is 14. (I know child labor, lol. He loves it.)  He’ll retweet tweets with some hashtags thrown in on intervals.  He’ll share posts and info for me here and there.  But when it comes to actually being the voice of me or my business I need to be there.

  • @rich-brooks I guess I am the “outsourced” person for my association client. After a year, I have the voice down fairly well. Plus there is input from the Board and the public relations vendor. The hard part is finding the balance between professional and personal voice sometimes.
