Can podcasting grow your business? (TOTW: 6/24/2012) (7 posts)

  • First off: apologies. I haven’t been as present as I should have this last week. I’ve got an upcoming conference, my regular work duties, and something brand new that I’m very excited about!

But not quite ready to share! ;)

But here’s what I wanted to talk about: podcasting.

Years ago I had a podcast which I dropped because it felt like too much work. It seemed (to me) like less people were interested in podcasts, and I just didn’t enjoy putting them together.

At the previous Blogworld (in LA) podcasters felt like they were 2nd class citizens. I didn’t even realize podcasting was a big thing anymore!

This latest Blgworld (in NYC) had a much bigger focus on podcasting, and it feels like it couldn’t have come at a better time.

In talking with some of the top bloggers and content creators, it seems like they all had podcasts going or were about to start them.

Intrigued, I started listening to a bunch of podcasts, including Social Triggers Insider, Smart Passive Income and Eventual Millionaire, among others.

    They were great!

In addition, I was able to listen while I was stacking wood, mowing the lawn and commuting.

While I wouldn’t describe that as “free of distractions”, I would argue that it was less distracting than having a dozen other links to click on, 12 other videos being recommended, or thousands of tweets competing for my attention.

So, yes: a podcast is going to be part of this next big thing I’m doing!

I’m wondering how many of you have tried podcasting or are currently doing one. Feel free to share links, tips, success stories, etc. I’d love to check out your podcast…it’s just the thing I need for the next time I mow my lawn!

  • I couldn’t agree more, Rich!  The portability of mp3 files and the popularity of new talk radio apps like Stitcher are making podcasting an effective channel for both individuals and companies alike that want to increase their social media exposure and become thought leaders in their industries.  Our company specializes in helping people create successful audio programming and we are seeing great success with the number of downloads in almost every industry we serve.  Just make sure you partner with a production and hosting company that can get you more exposure than you can on your own.

Thank you Rich and Cyndi. I appreciate what you have shared. I haven’t been on much for awhile working to get things in order for sites and facebook. I have been rolling around the idea of podcasts. What you have shared re-affirms it’s still a vital idea and becoming more so as social media grows and catches on.
I have drug my feet with this so I think, it’s time to quit and begin to pursue.
    Thanks again,
    Rebecca

  • Thank you @rich-brooks. I had not thought about this and admit I know nothing about podcasting.  Would love to see some tips from all of you.

  • Nice. Thanks for your post Rich and Cyndi.Check out this łóżka

  • Hello everyone! I currently produce two podcast show (one of which I host), and I’m producing and will be hosting a third one focused on how other microbusinesses and solopreneurs are using podcasting and new media to connect with and build their audiences.I believe that podcasting is like anything else in the digital publishing space in that, if it fits you and your audience, then it can be a powerful tool. However, if you don’t like talking by yourself on a mic or interviewing people, but still want to create a podcast for your business or blog (or both!), consider getting a co-host. Using Skype and a few hundred bucks worth of equipment can give you great, professional sounding results. It’s working for me! : )

  • We actually do a podcast on our blog, and it has opened us up to a whole new audience. I was wondering if it would amount to anything, but we are averaging over 1,000 downloads per episode every 3-4 days. That is HUGE. This all seems to be coming from iTunes as well…

If you want to listen, please head over to: http://hubze.com/category/podcasts/

Please be sure to comment and let us know what you think. We LOVE feedback!
