Time Management: Do you outsource? (10 posts)

  • It seems that I am working full-time on my own social media marketing, that I don’t have time to do what’s important….retain new clients!

I am a solopreneur working from home. Do you find that you need help in some way to juggle all of the balls of social media marketing (tweeting, posting, updating, etc) so you can get to work on growing your business?

What are some of your strategies you use in making sure you are spending your time on profit making activities? Do you outsource some of your daily activities? If so, where do you find quality contractors?I appreciate your feedback.

  • I use Hootsuite to manage my social media accounts. I’ve got a video about it on my Youtube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/torontocarol  Although I teach small business owners how to use Hootsuite, I find that many people don’t have the time and would rather concentrate on their own businesses, so I’m thinking of offering that service as well. So yes, outsourcing is another viable option.

  • Hi Denise! I am SO with you on struggling to find time. I am seriously considering outsource. I just finished listening to Shannon Cherry on Blogtalk radio and she has this program called Reboot that is for service providers (VA’s like me, etc). Her radio show was SUPER eye-opening and incredibly good. Here’s the link: give it a listen:

I also just saw a program come through from her about securing interns to help with your workload. I am SUPER curious about that. http://www.tweakitandprofit.com/internspromo/

    Hope this helps!

  • @deniserubright @torontocarol @beckyflansburg  I, too, get overwhelmed with trying to handle everything.  The intern idea is a good one.  I know that our local college has a program for that and I’m sure there is a big call for interns in the field of social media, as it’s the thing to do these days.  Thanks, Denise, for starting this thread because it jogged my memory about that!

  • I didn’t think of that. Good idea. @dianebianchi

  • Glad to be of help, @deniserubright :)

  • @deniserubright

I own a social media marketing business, so I not only do my own social media marketing, but everybody else’s!  While I do not outsource my own content writing and publishing (yet), I do outsource it on behalf of several of our clients (they know this and approve it).

I had a situation in May/June where several very large, time-consuming projects “collided” all at once, and there just weren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. So I hired two excellent people to help for a month. It was painful to spend the money to hire them, but I’ve worked with them before so didn’t need to train them. They just stepped in and did the job with excellence, and their help allowed us to continue serving all our clients without missing a beat. Plus, I kept my sanity intact. Kind of.

I am learning that I can’t do it all, and that outsourcing is a very wise investment — there are so many talented people out there who are so much better than I am at certain things… and they need jobs. Why not hire them?

In addition to hiring interns, LinkedIn is an excellent source of professionals who are looking for contract work. I have found good people who have been in the workforce for years, but who are going back to college to get re-trained in my field. They are highly motivated, will work for a reasonable fee, and are eager to learn.

  • Yes, @laurachristianson, I agree LinkedIn is a good resource for finding work.

  • Virtual Assistants (VAs) are also an option, social media is not my expertise but there are many out there who specialize in just that.
