The Ultimate Business Guide (8 posts)

  • Hey Team!

I’m curious about putting together something along the lines of an “ultimate business guide”.  I’d love to know what you guys think the most important/useful information is for someone running their own business, whether it be an online business or more tangible.  Things like marketing, advertising, social media, branding, pricing, sales, negotiating, etc.  What do YOU wish you knew more about, and what would be your #1 request in such a guide?  Thanks in advance for the replies! ;)

  • Hi @kylegfitz

Something that always seems to be left out are references to the laws that govern small business. Of course you cannot do this state by state but you can put people on the right track with the SBA guidelines. How to go after government contracts; at least some references for new business owners.

    Eileen :D

  • Nice, that is certainly something I hadn’t thought of, it doesn’t exactly spring to mind ;)

I think you got a great idea!  I’d like to read about the least expensive ways to do advertising and marketing for a new business.

My business is more than a year old and I’m still struggling with advertising and marketing issues!  In fact, I’m currently looking for a guide on Google PPC.  I’m in the middle of a campaign and I’m not getting as many sales as I’d hoped :-(

Maybe you could write about how to advertise using Google and Facebook.

  • @kylegfitzAlong the lines of what @ricoramiro said, the Ultimate Business Guide might be too broad a topic. How about the Ultimate Start Up Guide, or Ultimate Small Biz PPC Guide. It would be easier to create and more helpful to your intended audience. Good luck!

  • I with Rich. The Ultimate Business StartUp Guide would be a great topic… and one that hasn’t been updated in quite a while. You could include case studies of new businesses… perhaps each chapter could focus on one aspect, followed by a case study of a real business startup showing that aspect in action. Something like that.

Don’t forget that young people in their 20′s are starting businesses at a rate never seen before. Probably because they have no confidence in traditional businesses anymore and are trying to make their own path… without waiting for the economy to turn around. So maybe also have a chapter about starting a business at different ages and how that affects the choices these entrepreneurs make when setting up their business. Young single business owners, family-oriented owners in their 30-40′s, 50-60is new business owners, retired renewed business owners who either LOST their retirement and have to earn a new living or those who start new businesses because they’re bored with retirement and need to work to stay involved. Just some possible topics to explore.

Phil, I think this is a great subject. Please do go forward on this!

  • Thanks for the feedback!  Good comments all around.  @Ramiro Rodriguez, Adwords is one of my specialties, I’d love to take a look (no charge) and offer you any relevant pointers I can see.  Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the offer @kylegfitz.  I’ll send you a pm so we can talk about it.
