The Problem with Google + (7 posts)

  • Okay, most who have been following a different thread heard from Rich about his issue when someone was negative with him on FB. All he did was delete it. Here is what happened to me this morning, and if anyone knows anybody from Google + staff , I know a few, please let them know of this.

I was doing business with a gentleman I met on G+ and saw what he did. I liked what he did and I order a service from him. Actually you can see the animated banner on my profile and business page.

It took a while to get it just right and was a few days late on paying him. He messaged me a few times and I indicated it would be paid, but he has to give me a bit more time. Today, I open up my G+ account and I saw about 40 messages or comments on my posts. I was elated, I was wondering how did that happen, what did I post that had that many comments.

Found out he- posted to all my 40 postings a negative comment of who I am and that I don’t pay for what is due. I was shocked… I tried to DELETE the post but Google did not allow me to do this.

Later this morning, I did solve the issue, he got paid, he was happy and I told him to please delete all the negative comments he gave. I know he did not know me from Adam, and he was not from America. We did solve this issue and both parties are happy.

I believe Google, needs to allow the owner of the account- personal or business page to be able to delete. This could have cost me a ton… someone actually told me to report him as SPAM and I did not. I believe in a win-win situation and I was glad I had the time- after rearanging a few meetings to deal with this.

Have you had a similar expirence?

  • Wow, that’s quite the experience! I have nothing I can share that is similar to that, but I’m interested in hearing what others have to say.

I do like the animated gif you got out of the deal.

Note: the g+ link in your profile isn’t functional, it only contains your google ID number, not the url.

  • @juleswebb- Thank you so much.. Did not notice that on this profile for SME, took me a while to figure out what profile you were talking about. I do appreciate you pointing that out.

  • @prestonodenbrett – sorry about that, I guess I should have been more explicit about what profile I was referring to.

  • @prestonodenbrett  Wow! What a crazy man. I really wonder sometimes why people do the crazy things they do instead of taking a breath and putting themselves in another persons shoes.

  • @prestonodenbrett

When hiring someone online, always know where they live (region, state, country, etc) as the rules may be different for payment.  In the US it is generally assumed you will have 30 net days to pay but this is certainly not always the case.

With graphics – I have a “pay upon receipt” policy as people think they will keep the graphics or design and keep putting me off for the payment. I spend a healthy amount of time drawing/designing (especially logos as there is also a lot research involved) and waiting 30 days to begin trying to collect is not always smart.  SO, I just make all graphics agreements pay upon receipt of goods. I also get a down payment for logo design, even with a contract in place.

I can see this from both sides and won’t judge anyone but before hiring I’d think payment in a timely manner should be worked out if a contract has not been put in place.

How anyone handles this should be, for the sake of Prestons’ statement, professional.  As far as social media is concerned, a bad rep can be a disaster and much more than a public nuisance.  I think you got lucky that he removed his negative posts.  But of course, public humiliation and reputation damage is not (and never should be) used as a ploy for payment of what is due.

  • Oops forgot this!   @prestonodenbrett

I am not sure G+ should change their policy.  A lot of sharks (and thieves pretty much) are out there.  If you are always above board in your business practices, that should be good enough.  But of course, I’d also like to have control over all the content that is associated with my G+ account too!
Your situation was handled successfully and really, other than some porn crapola I don’t have a clue what G+ should do, you know?
