  • Will anyone be attending the SXSW interactive event. Is it beneficial for a small business to attend?

  • I suppose it would depend on your industry.  It’s geared toward music and film.

  • @patticakes Patti learned the quadruple-click

Chris Brogan once described SXSWi as “spring break for geeks.” That about sums it up.

( @iamconsulting there are two other SXSWs, film and music, but there definitely is an interactive one. Interactive and film overlap, and as the interactive and movie geeks leave, the musicians and groupies move in!)

I’ve gone twice. The first time I went to a few good sessions, but more mediocre ones. However, the parties and networking were awesome. And Austin is one of my favorite cities ever.

The second time the networking was even better, but there were no good sessions that I attended…and I went to quite a few.

So, it all depends on what you’re looking to accomplish. If you’re looking to learn something, I personally prefer NMX (previously BlogWorld) and the Success Summits that SME puts on, Facebook being the next one.

But, being able to write off a trip to Austin, grab some great BBQ and listen to some rooftop music? That’s awesome.

  • I will definitely be there! It depends on what your small business is but SXSW is THE place to meet the who’s who in Social Media. The interactive part is All about Networking! The film and music are completely separate. I do recommend buying your badge now if you are going to invest. I have gone the past two years without a badge and there was still not enough time in the day to meet, explore and network. Some events require a badge but many are open. I was a Google Plus Street Team member last year so I was able to go in and out of the Google Village anytime. http://www.eventbrite.com lists networking events and lets you know if a badge is required.Huge! Book your hotel now….The prices are insane and the #SXSW badge holder discount is not that great. Another site I found out about is http://VRBO.com I highly recommend staying within walking distance to downtown but it is pricey. I usually bunk up with 2-3 other gals. Keep me posted and reach out if you have any other questions ;)

  • I still have no idea what the SXSW is…..

  • @patticakes It just looks like so much fun! But I’m very cautious where I invest my money. I want to go learn. For me the WordCamps have been an awesome value!

  • @devanianjali Here is the main website http://www.sxsw.comIt honestly is Geek Spring Break via Chris Brogan every March in Austin, TX.I have some photos posted on my Google Plus profile from SXSW 2012http://google.com/+lauriedesautels

  • Thanks @lauriedesautels ! Will check it out!

  • Hello! We are a small business and we are exhibiting at SXSW – Compared to other tech shows, it is half the cost of exhibiting. There are 3 shows – we will be at the Trade Show and they said last year they had 65,000 people go through over the 4 day time period. I’d absolutely look into it, depending on what your company does and who you are trying to reach. Best of luck!
