  • @kimkline wow 15 minutes?!? I want what she’s smoking! I just get really into it at 15 min.

  • Hi @kimkline.  I do use some of the tools she suggests in the article, but I still don’t see how it can be done in 15 minutes!  I’m with @amyhallbiz!

  • Like the gym, if you talk yourself into going for 15 min., chances are you will stay longer!

  • @amyhallbiz @dianebianchi @famousalice  I have to agree that I am skeptical on being able to get it all done in 15 minutes myself!  I have done some preliminary work to try and streamline my Social Media efforts and am hoping that it will result in being able to reduce the time I currently spend.  Not sure if I can reach 15 minutes, but I will let you know!

  • @kimkline I am with the others @amyhallbiz @dianebianchi @famousalice and believe that 15 minutes is an understatement, particularly if you take care to ensure your messages are suited toward each channel.

It might be a goal to work toward, and possibly an average over a long period of time can come close, but still not feeling it

The other comment is that because of the immediacy and viral nature of some things, only being on once a day for a very short period of time might create a mis-timing of your responses, or missed opportunities

  • @joanmuschampfagnani  Good points Joan.  I do agree that in Social Media “immediacy” and “relevancy” are key.  For this reason, while I do pre-schedule many of my posts, I often alter that schedule to include a new story or issue.

I really posed this question to see whether I was alone in the time it takes me to keep up in my own Social Media world!  I am still going to try and stream line, so we shall see how it goes!

Thanks for all the great comments from everyone!

  • @kimkline It is helpful, in my opinion, if you learn how to delegate some of the basic functions of your social media management, so as the business owner you are spending your time wisely, and saving your efforts for that which requires your expertise and is difficult to delegate

  • @kimkline Hi Kim

You should pretty much ignore these sorts of articles as they are used as linkbait.

For a better understanding on how social media marketing would work in the real world, have a look at my article on how it could work for a store owner.

    Cheers

  • 7 minutes for responses AND for writing up new status updates? I usually research the news, try to find suitable pictures or take photos myself etc. So that alone can take significant time.

I’m glad you guys see it the same way. Articles like this may give a totally wrong impression to my customers for who I manage the social media presence… :-(

  • @kimkline good  points…. especially  about  dropping   work that  doesnt  bring in  customers…we have done that   pretty well…after  trying……

…  it  kind of leaves out the main work  tho,  for me anyway…..that would  be   staging and  taking the right pictures of inventory,   talking over  the   ideas  for  good  engaging  posts,,,discussing  new ideas some  from here with my  web  person,  and  mainly  truly  answering  the   important  questions  that  come into us   thru our  facebook page like~~ how tall is  that and whats the price?   besides  replying  to all the   nice easy   comments….so mine   needs  more than  15 minutes a day…i post  2  times a day….

..also  since im  kind of  a dud   mechanically,  just  posting  correctly   probably takes me   twice as long as it should….that part is  always  done at home in the mornings  tho   in  under  1/2  hr….

  • Thanks again all for the great responses!  I, myself, find keeping up with Social Media tasks hard work, especially since I want to do it right!

@claudiapoeckl  I also spend much of my time on researching articles for news and items that are of interest in addition to the blog I started.  So I fully understand where you are coming from!  In no way can I get what I want done in anywhere near 15 minutes.

@annfurnivall  I also appreciate your take on all of this (as usual).  Like you, I try to start my day with email, responses to posts, etc. and I really try to dive right in and get it done so I can continue with my day.

    Thanks again everyone!

  • @russellallert LINKBAIT…. .. i love  new words……  and  thats  such a  point….so many links  are   truly  shallow and  dont   dig into the  hard  questions  of  real use….like  the piles of  pinterest links  that w ere written  by  folks  who  didnt even have a page..it was hard  to find much  past  what   everyone already knew…..of  course i do a little    linkbait too, when i post  a good   post on an industry  forum, just in my sig  tho……or  put my pinterest on  my  facebook..so it can be a  good thing too….

i dont  see why  they are used  so much forideas and  articles…. especially on here….i  would  much  rather   read  whats  working   for   our members in their actual  experience…. so i hardly ever go to links anymore…i already  get several  social media  places in my   inbox…….i would  much  rather read   your  theory  for stores here on  sme      than have to go  to  your link.. … or  even  better…a real discussion /thread   for stores on here….  im a  store..

.i did  go to your link, it was  kind of  real world and  refreshing!!! thanks…it  slightly  showed me how  hootsuit   and instagram  could  be   used..how  did they enhance  pictures on instagram?   what  did they do?..i dont know about those at all…yet….

  • @kimkline  and  look  what a  good thread  you started…
