Starting A Business – No Idea Where To Start (5 posts)

  • I need some advice – Its a New Year & a chance for me to take The Real Supermum to the next level – BUT I have had some serious confidence issues dealt my way after being diagnosed with Bipolar over 2 years ago now.

I own a blog with 2,000 daily readers. I have a large Social Media following & have dedicated the last 2 years to helping women and mums – what do I do next? Help!

I need some constructive advice/criticism/ideas x What do I do? I dont want to go back to a 9-5 job but I do want to get back to work! I also love what I do online but of course I need to make an income.

The Real Supermum Blog to give you a bit more info on what I do as its hard to even explain – any help appreciated

  • @therealsupermum You may want to check with your local chamber of commerce or economic development authority. Mine (Fairfax County EDA in Virginia) offers a monthly class with a wealth of information and resources for new businesses: http://www.fairfaxcountyeda.org/starting-business-seminar If these places are not available or convenient, there might be a Meetup group in your area. Check out this example: http://www.meetup.com/After-Hours-Entrepreneurs/ - This meet up is for all the Entrepreneurs out there who are starting full time and need networking but cannot meet during office hours.

Have you thought about managing others’ blogs? Selling select ad space on your blog? Or have a weekly/monthly sponsor of your blog?

You might also think about submitting a blog entry to a larger entity (Working Moms, Inc., Entrepreneur, Parenting, etc.) as I’m sure that they’re always looking for content. They may offer a small fee.

See if you can’t appear at a local event and get paid for speaking. Another idea is to publish an ebook. Even a $5 book can net you some funds if you have the volume. As Mike Stelzner did with Launch, release the first chapter for free.

Hope this helps you! Good luck.

  • that many  foloowers is  so  great….!!

i would look at~`the  graphics fairy~ or other  blogs  that have actually monetized..[so few have managed it]..and  see  how  they  did it…..

or make some  product that  you  could  sell on online…. having to  do with  your   followers….

@therealsupermum money on line is  so hard….

.  OR   how about a  TEACH A GRANDMA TO SURF class?….    and   be a local tutor    aimed at   women over  50 who  want to  be on line  and use their phone  right   and who would love to have a little  helper… they want to keep in touch   with their  far flung  families….  i thought of this as a  girl scout project…. i  would hire someone   like that,  online is  really hard if  you  grew up  without   remote controls and with  simple on and off switches….

  • @therealsupermum

    A couple of thoughts:

    • Is there someone in your industry you look up to? Maybe approach them to mentor you? If there’s not, possibly hiring a professional coach that helps people take their business to the next level would be an option. There may even be some who have experience working with people who have bipolar disorder.
    • Have you looked into any mastermind groups? I’ve never really done one, but my friend Amy Porterfield swears by them…says that’s one of the biggest reasons why she exploded her business. I have other friends who also find them very helpful.
    Good luck!

  • Hi @therealsupermum

I thought of your question when I ran across this today and thought it might be helpful —

Turning a blog into a business

There are a lot of articles out there along these lines.
