Social Media Pet Peeves (13 posts)

• Full Disclosure: I’m writing a song and may use your ideas from this thread.

What are your least favorite things you see people doing on social media?

What cracks you up about how other people/business use social media?

If you want, put your thoughts to the tune of “My Favorite Things”, but poetry is not required. Just funny comments.

Your turn

• #teamfollowback
• Social Media Gurus w/ < 100 followers on Twitter.
• Being asked to join someone on 12 different platforms when I’ve just followed you on Twitter. Slow down, buddy, we’re still on our first date!

• shallow gurus…. reposting totally basic advice from other gurus about stuff they havent tried. or have much insight into………the pinterest coverage comes to mind,

.and businesses using a personal page instead of a business page….

• People who automatically say, “I followed you, now follow me.”
• Brands with accounts who don’t respond to outreach (darn Post-it folks)
• #FF

• When I follow someone on Twitter and their auto message says follow me on Facebook. If I wanted to be on Facebook I wouldn’t be following them on Twitter.

People than demand a return follow. I NEVER follow them.

• Until the end of December, I was on 45 eCommerce or social media LinkedIn groups. I came to the conclusion that every unemployed MBA created a social media marketing agency or was able top explain how to optimize a website for SEO or deploy an adwords campaign in 5 paragraphs (or less). The tsunami of bad information was too much and I left all 45 groups.
Ironically I just got an email from LinkedIn that said: “You have one of the top 5% most viewed LinkedIn profiles for 2012.
LinkedIn now has 200 million members. Thanks forplaying a unique part in our community!
That and $5.00 will get you a latte

• On Twitter, those who keep mentioning you to get attention for themselves and want you to follow them. I agree on the “follow me everywhere” auto messages too.

On LinkedIn, the generic invitation email – don’t you care enough to personalize? Guess you really didn’t want to connect!

• @mitch-rezman lol….in this field {social media} its hard to get to the real facts about whats actually working…. if you are serious in your judgement of the cash value of your time ..

• Kittens and bacon and meaningless pictureIf I wanted to know what you had for breakfast I would have invited you overPolitical wannabes”friends” from high school who think I wanna play games all day – who has time for games on Facebook?

• …..i dont…. but a lot of my old classmates do apparantly..could be worse habits i guess, like whatever horrible violent games my little grandkids play on their little devices……

. @phil-mershon thats what my dh says…. but then he sees the business side….for us.

• Hiya Folks.

I waited to see what others might post first. We probably all share many pet peeves for SM – Here is my list and like many of you; mine are the same or similar.

1. Asking for connections when I don’t know you.
2. Silly Status Updates – Being asked to RT or share silly status updates.
3. Self-proclaimed “social media experts” who may know tactics, but don’t know how to formulate strategy.
4. Content for search engine baiting that has no real value.
5. Using SM for marketing instead of engaging.

Eileen :D

• Hi-

There were some comments about “so called SM experts” and I just posted a topic on what makes an expert and hope you will add your comments.

Thanks,

Steve
