social media for age sensitive content (6 posts)

  • I am fairly new owner of an online business. While searching and creating social media networks and blog sites, I run into one particular problem. Several media and blog sites are not friendly to age sensitive content. They are not set up to filter such material and the terms and conditions are very specific about the type of ads or content you use. Aside from Facebook and twitter, what are some other recommendations are available?

I’ve never worked with age sensitive content.  I have always declined that type of business association and by keeping content family friendly, I’ve not run into this problem myself.  Perhaps some other folks here will have a slant on that.

  • @wickedtreasure Do you mean young or old? There are some platforms that cater to the under 18 crowd (though I’d have to look them up again). And the AARP might have some recommendations for those over 60. I don’t believe that I’ve come across anything for the “older” set.
I went ahead and did a quick search for ya! It’s what I love to do anyway :) Kids: Everloop http://www.everloop.com/A list from Parents magazine: http://www.parents.com/blogs/tech-savvy-parents/2012/07/23/must-read/4-safe-social-networking-sites-for-kids/A list from NPR: http://www.npr.org/2011/07/11/137705552/ten-safe-social-networking-sites-for-kids

I’m guessing you mean you have something that’s not suitable for kids, right? Gambling, alcohol, or sex.

If so, social media is a difficult venue for those topics.

I would focus on blogging. If you were doing video, there are some video hosting sites that accept those topics, but I haven’t done the research myself.

There are also hosting companies specifically set up for adult themed content.

If I misunderstood you, and your stuff is more focused on kid friendly fare, it looks like some other people have shared some good links above.

  • Yes, can you please define what you mean by “age-sensitive” content?
Everyone’s chiming in with some very interesting guesses, all of which would make interesting forums, but since you asked the question, would you mind defining it a bit more? That way we can open up new forums on these other topics, several of which I’d love to discuss. But I really think we need to pick ONE.
