Social Media Examiner Google + Hangout? (10 posts)

  • I hope I am not off-topic and if this is the wrong club to be posting in, then I apologize. It seemed like the right one. I was reading the post called “Linkedin Groups Worthless?” and saw a comment by @atlantarobin saying that we spend ten times more time typing out messages than it would take to talk to someone on the phone. I like the ability to reply in real time and correct a misunderstanding of something I said in real time.

I thought a Google Plus Hangout for everyone in Social Media Examiner would be really cool. That way we can actually say what we really mean and if people don’t want to show their faces, but just be heard they can be.  If you already have a Google Plus Hangout day, then I apologize for saying something that is already happening. Anyways, just food for thought.

If I misinterpeted what Robin meant, I apologize. I am not sure when I should quote someone and when I shouldn’t. If I quoted at the wrong time, I am quite sorry and will try to make sure the mistake doesn’t happen again.

  • @planetzuda

You know, I’ve never really done a G+ Hangout except as a test. I’d be open to trying one around a certain topic for sure.

    What does everyone else think?

  • Morn’n’

I would LOVE that – hangouts are fun; you can learn so much and be able to share when you need too – I make hangout notes in advance when I can. But spontaneous is good too.

I like to have 24 hour notice – and never hangout on a Sunday night, but most any other night would be OK.  Same place, same time each week works well. You know, since this would be deemed business an afternoon or morning hangout would work too.

I actually thought about this a time or two and wondered if any of the powers that be would come up with this on their own, for social media examiner clubs.

Start with one hangout for all the clubs, pick a subject, and go! I’m in. :D

You know Rich, if you started this up you’d have to choose who to invite — here is some help with the start up and how to invite:

Just thought I’d save you a little search time.

  • @planetzuda @rich-brooks I have been wanting to organize a Google+ Hangout ever since the beginning of the year and I now might have to do one for a client, so please keep me in the loop if you organize something. I will certainly want to see how the whole thing takes place… ;-)

    Cheers,
    FG
@supereb Thanks for the links! I will certainly check ‘em out!

  • @planetzuda @rich-brooks @fredericgonzalo @superb- I would be totally open to that- Rich, if you can do please invite me- Just Google Me and you will find me :)

I have been too a few of them – I think 6 or so and you can tell the ones that are run correctly and the ones that are not.

I would suggest that you do a personal invite- I know making it public is a good thing and with the benefit of having it on Youtube and recorded. However, don’t invite public until the room is full.

I don’t mind people from other countries, I have a lot of clients from all over the world, what I don’t like is that at the time I “Tested” this out, it did not work so well when I opened the public gates. I had a ton of people coming in and out, some came in with loud music, some came in with profanity, while others believe it or not came in to hit on others- Dating.. I would suggest you make it 18+ – people who speak English and that you figure out a way, to mute people when they come in.

As a side note, we could use both G+ to bring people into a video conference room that I have- It will only hold up to 100 people, but that should change soon to unlimited.. I would think 10% of the people here, if done right, would like to come into this chat and meet people face to face…

Rich- let’s chat if you are interested, I can help and I think it would be a good fun expirence and I was looking over my plans for 2013 and build a business type community..

    Thanks

  •  I am glad everyone likes the idea. Maybe the first topic should be about blogging and how almost every business uses a blog. If a business doesn’t use a blog, then they are missing out on potential customers.

  • Hello @planetzuda

Blogging is certainly important but I think Rich would need to decide on what the hangout subject might be – this is the small business club and Christi Hines runs the blogging club.

Having Christi as a featured guest might be the thing for blogging.

  • @supereb I was merely making a suggestion. I apologize if it was taken any other way. I am still learning the proper etiquette for this site. Maybe each club should do Google Plus hangouts on different days, so they can focus on their topics? Just an idea. I am just offering ideas.

  • HI @planetzuda

Hey – me too!  I have no clue what they have in mind. For all I know, they will have one hangout, just to see how it goes.  If we get to have input as to the subject, I am guessing that Rich will manage that and ask us questions as to what we may need/want.

Please don’t take offense to what I post – I don’t mean it in a bad way. We should be hanging together on this.

    Eileen :D
