Social Media Button for SME Clubs. (23 posts)

  • Hello.

While re-designing one of my own sites, I am adding the usual buttons: FB, Twitter, G+ and wonder if SME Clubs has a button that I can link to my profile here — You folks got that or do I need to design one for my site?

    Thanks!

    Eileen :D

  • Interesting Idea. Now don’t get me wrong E, you know I love SME clubs, but why add this to your social buttons list?

  • @supereb  @jasonwiser  I’d like an iPhone app for SME.  While we’re dreaming. :)

  • @jasonwiser @amyhallbiz

Hi – Just a thought.  I link to multiple sites from different websites of my own and it occurred to me that I did not have any links to the SME clubs or to the profile I have here.

Just displaying social media contacts is not really enough but it does show an interest in online media that stretches beyond Mashable, and the usual top dog areas.  SME is getting pretty well known anyhowsen and the word is being spread with other SM tools: twitter, FB, G+, so why not include a link to the Clubs here?  One more step in the SM ladder, so to speak.

  • I think it would be a good idea. maybe do a ‘most popular now…’ type tool.

  • Hey @supereb makes sense to me. And you are correct to point out that SME Clubs is getting a lot of traction

  • Ask @mike-stelzner if he is OK with the idea.

  • @supereb @richardmclaughlin

We’re actually working on a badge

    Hello Folks

I made this one the size for one website that matches the sizes of other buttons I am using:

It’s 32 x 32 pixels or 0.33 x 0.33 inches  Just a little button; but will be at top of all pages.  I have no idea if it is acceptable but am going with it for now, because it’s the size I need to match the other buttons. I can replace it easy enough with one you folks might want us to use, if the size is right.  It is also similar to your favicon.

  • @supereb

    Works fine for me :)

  • @mike-stelzner

Whew!  It occurred to me you might say “copyright infringment!” – after all, it is part of YOUR website design.

    Thanks for the “OK.”

    Eileen ;D

  • awesome!!! frontrunner idea! how can I get one of those buttons? Glad Michael approved. @supereb

  • @supereb  It’s going up on my site right now! :)

  • @deairby @amyhallbiz – Everyone is welcome to download the image and use it – it’s a freebie – Heh.  However, please don’t hot link to it.

Dea – download it to your computer’s hard drive then upload it to one of your online spaces and link to it from there. It is a cutie button, eh?

    Eileen :D

  • @supereb  What a cutie pie button! And an awesome idea! So glad Mike liked it.

@mike-stelzner Please let us all know when you have an official one for SME.

  • @atlantarobin

Hey Robin – Feel free to use the one above.  We are working on some design ideas but it may be a few weeks.

  • I dislike badges think buttons look better. Here’s my example of button creation to link social media hubs together: http://www.myspace.com/572691154

Don’t know why you’d want to link to SME like that. Seems amateurish or sophomoric.

  • fun idea, very cute button! @superebcan’t wait for official button, and to find out all about it! I have been trying to add members regularly on twitter under a category SME to keep connected @mike-stelzner

  • @krmcgee – Social Media for business (legitimate business) can be found in all kinds of niches.  SME is big news now; lending a helping hand and all that.

There is value; you just have to look with ‘business’ eyes to know it’s there.

@mssilvr – Me too – SME allows us to have our say, whether it is a tad self-serving or not. Heh. ;)

  • @supereb My company is a registered corporation in the state of Pennsyvania and holds a sales tax license which allows me to charge you sales tax. In return, I get sales tax exemption.

SME isn’t big news. I had to search to find it. Snow White farting on the silver screen is big news.

Speaking of looking with your business eye, perhaps you should take another look: http://www.myspace.com/reversedengineereddesigns

    If you still don’t understand, here’s a tutorial: http://members.tripod.com/~a_murder_of_ravens/welcome2.html

I get that some of you want to badge your sites with SME because helping other businesses use the very basic scripted and a little buggy MailChimp is part of your business. Badge yourselves silly. That’s your choice. I just wouldn’t do it.

  • @krmcgee  I did not see any tutorial in that link.   And I want to take a moment to remind everyone to be respectful here.  There is no need to judge each other’s businesses or choices on wanting a badge or not wanting a badge.  There is room for all kinds of businesses and people here in the Clubs.

  • @andrea-vahl The link was intended to be a metaphor showing my street cred online, that I’ve been here longer than probably most of the people here, including the owner of SME, who I believe has only been online since about 2005. For me, that link is like traveling back in time to one of the defining moments in net history.

Don’t you have any appreciation for that? What — did you think I stop creating just because I’m in business mode?

I disagree about criticism. Remember the Where’s the beef? burger wars? Professionals criticize each other all the time. I’ve found that criticism helps one improve. I welcome it.

I agree there’s room for everybody in the Clubs and that everyone should feel free to contribute. I tend to treat people the way they treat me, so if you show me respect, I’ll at least thank you for it. I mean if you engage me with disrespect, I’ll return the favor. But if you engage me offering valid criticism I’ll thank you for it. Even if that criticism is wrapped in decade old used burger wrappers.

I also want to point out that I’m troubled by SME’s public stance regarding like scams like the one I encountered on FB but originated here. Does SME think these kind of shady business practices are okay? If so, I don’t feel safe here. I also don’t feel free to speak my mind on a business level in these forums for fear of being censored in the form of solicited criticisms returned and deemed insulting, abusive, bullying

  • @krmcgee   I do appreciate street cred but I think by assuming most people here haven’t been online very long is doing them the same disservice that you felt the need to defend in the first place.  Mike Stelzner has been online for longer than that but I think it’s a great testament that he build SME to the place it is now in 2-1/2 years.  Longevity is great but incredible growth is also something to respect.

I didn’t say anything about criticism – I think constructive criticism is a great part of the Clubs here.  But it has to be constructive.

Also, if you read the Like Exchange thread you will see our stance within there.  There are people who like the ability to have the Like exchange so we make it available as the only place we allow self-promotion besides your personal profile.  We are trying to create a safe space for people to speak their minds and connect with each other.  But it can be a challenge with a wide variety of personalities.

I don’t want to make this whole thread about you and I so we can talk further offline about this if needed.  Thanks for your thoughts KR.
