Social Media Associations and Affiliations (9 posts)

  • Hi Guys

are there any Authorative Associations that us Social Media Companies can be recognized by….

  • @conrad-travis-david

What type of recognition would you want? Like a certification organization or an award ceremony?

I’ve heard of some certifications, but I don’t think there’s a formal group, like the International Association of Social Media Managers or anything.

Do you feel such a group would help you get more business?

  • Hi @conrad-travis-david

Here in the U.S.A. we have the BBB’s (Better Business Bureau) which is a club (of sorts) where you pay a fee to belong and then you can put their logo on your website – it denotes that your business is REAL (not some scam) and that you are a “member in good standing” in the community in which your business resides.  It is universal here; most cities and towns with even a meager population have that one. Has nothing to do with social media – just business in general.

As far as just “social media”, there is the SNAMA but I don’t know how authoritative they are at this point. The ASAE but it is not social media per se, it is an association for association executives. You’ll find many websites that purport to be “authorities” on many subjects, especially social media.

It would be nice if there was a place where everyone could go and find the best social media experts (like Third Tribe used to be) and get recognized for their own knowledge in the field at the same time/place.

Read @rich-brooks questions and let us know what you are looking for.

Note - You might make sure your links in social media places (like this one) work so the members can readily access your website and blog.  It should be this:  http://hashtagsa.com/blog/ — so it is a clickable link.

  • LOL – I read my above comments and realize that, at this point, Social Media Examiner Clubs just might be the most authoritative “social media” place you will find.

The only thing is — the only recognition you have here has to do with participation and not actual knowledge.  For ranking your only choice for now is how you rank in the search engines.

  • That’s It! I will start copying my Social Media Examiner badge and putting it in my footer or side widget. Especially if I make it to the Maven ranks like @supereb

My current “Adventurer” status does not really exactly ooze credibility! LOL

  • HI @bob-green

    Can’t hurt a thing!  I’d say it’s a good thing too. :D

  • @supereb Hey, I was on the cusp of becoming an Explorer anyway. Now I’ll definitely use it! Ha!

  • thanks guys for the response.

We it was a question i received from a client – they wanted to know under what authority do i fall under.
I advised them that Social Media platforms are growing daily and there is not an established association.

At some point Social Media will develop to associations by industry that approve by ethics and so on. but that’s a long time from now. probably next year. lol

  • Very interesting comments.
