Socal Medai and Security (2 posts)

  • Hi All,

I actually typed out this question last thursday and must have hit the wrong button as it has not appeared.

So Anyway, I was asked last week by a colleauge “is my social media presence secure or am I opening myself up to fraudsters”

I couldn’t honestly answer the question, so was wondering what the thoughts are here on security issues for a person, brand or company on-line, specifically with regard to Social media.

Has anyone any examples of Social Media being used fradulently and what measures should be taken to prevent it.

A large subject Im sure it is , could be interesting from here on

    Thanks

    John

Well, there certainly are security risks (see LinkedIn’s recent hack.)

However, IMHO it’s no more or less dangerous than any other online activity.

As always, it’s important to use unique passwords, log out of public (and possibly private) computers, and not post too much personal information, such as, “I’m glad my whole family is here with me in the Bahamas for the entire week,” unless you’re looking to get robbed.
