Serving Up Large Media Files (11 posts)

  • I’ve recently started recording all the audio and video from web marketing webinars I’m doing.

In the past I’ve provided the slides and audio, which were manageable from a server storage standpoint.

Video, however, is a different animal.

Looking for an affordable service to allow for streaming views and downloads behind a password protected wall. (I charge for my webinars rather than making them available for free.)

    Any suggestions?

  • You might try   http://vimeo.com/  hopes this helps.

  • @rich-brooks  I’ve been researching and just started using Knoodle.  It does it based on hours.  I also looked at Digital Chalk which charges a one time fee of $300 and then you pay for each item purchased – $4.95 plus 2.99%.  I’ll be watching this post to see what others suggest.

  • @rich-brooks I assume you wanted to pull your audio, slides and video together… my response was based on that.  I think Vimeo is completely video.  Knoodle and Digital Chalk were options I was exploring for delivering slides, audio and video, etc. in one place.

  • @rich-brooks You can try these guys. They are located in the UK but since they use CDN to deliver up the video it is a mute point. They do indeed allow for password protected downloads. You can look at them here.

  • @rich-brooks Our site has many many video tutorials. We control access to our videos using a membership plugin and have self hosted videos served from Amazon S3 (very secure) with our mobile versions served by Vimeo from a Vimeo Pro account.

  • @rich-brooks, I would look into Vimeo. They added a professional (commercial) membership option back in the autumn.

  • An associate of mine is asking the same type of question … how to host and download videos and other media. Vimeo seems like a great option (including their Pro account) and BrightCove is another option (but more expensive). My feeling is we’ll be choosing Video Pro $200/year. More to come in the next few weeks.

  • Megaupload/megavideo was my favorite :(

  • To upload & download, I use Mediafire, their free & pro versions are great. Vimeo pro is also a really super option. Though, YouTube does allow you to upload pretty large files and they also allow you to keep them private so that only the person/people with the link can see it.

The Amazon S3 that was mentioned is also a good option, but can get pricey.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks, all!
