scary progression…. (20 posts)

  • heres what i see in my world….BLOGS  used to  be great. then  came  .  facebook and twitter..gradually  pushing the  blogs aside and  websites  too…….now   the  activity  might  be  shifting to   instagram and pinterest…..  dang i dont want to have to  do instagram…….

    my world is   art, home decor, in other words   very visual  ….

    i just had a customer with  50,000  pinterest  followers who  started out   with  blogging…thats what   made her famous….but now  she  is  mostly instagram…like she said  ..all they care about is the pictures….she  sells out  in the  3 main places  she  sells at ….

    her  blog is  beautiful….

  • @annfurnivall

    Yes, but is she in the same business you are?

  • kind of…she sells   in the same  field…she does shows  and etsy…i have a destination retail store…big portion of my  target customers  are the same vision, mentality, taste as hers….we  both sell about the same thing…altho i sell lots of other things too…

    .  a couple of months ago i thought   instagram  was just for  20 somethings…but like me, she sells  furniture to homeowners, and thats  not mainly  20 yr olds…so i think  instagram is  creeping  up into  my  customers……..  she  said  she was going to  put   our store on her  blog….  andi  see  she has pinned  some of our producrts on  her pinterest…thats probably how she decided to come to us to buy…

    she would  be such a  great social media   story  ~~~how she  used   the web   and  became a celebrity and  seeing the  results which is  selling  2  boxtrucks  of furniture and   etc  each month at a big show in chicago….in the store one of her fans was also there which was  neat…i didnt know her when she came in…but had heard of her….

    the power of  the internet for sure!!!

  • @annfurnivall I guess you need to be where your customers are, no point fishing for tuna in the desert… unless of course you enjoy being in the desert and don’t like catching tuna.

  • @jake-hower for sure.i  look at the   business that way all the time…

    .my  facebook is  working  great now , over 20%  engagement  most of the time..over 5k fans……  but i might have to   think  about  instagram  if i  keep  seeing hints like this……..

  • Try it for a month (at least). Sounds like you want to but are trying to talk yourself out of it.  @annfurnivall

  • @judithgotwald …you  might  be right….its kind of on my list….  2 problems….time and learning  curve….

  • Hi @annfurnivall —

    I don’t use instagram but have heard many people raving about how effective it is – once you know how.

    Starting to learn – a jump into something new is always an unpleasant task – but once you see the potential and what you can do – the learning curve does not look so bad.  Then, of course it becomes actual fun.

  • @annfurnivallWe’ll cheer you on, if it will help!

    @supereb is right. It can’t be as hard as it seems. Block out an hour or two to get started and then 20 minutes a day. That’s how I got going with Twitter. And it ended up being fun. Wish I had more time for it.

  • @annfurnivall   @judithgotwald

    OK Ann – you’ve got a cheer-leading section now – so you have to start – go spend that hour some morning and report back – we’ll boost your ego and help you find more help if necessary.

    I won’t actually BE any help (sorry about that) but I can do a mean CHEER!  Heh.

  • @annfurnivall   @supereb

    Let’s rename it ANNstagram. Yea!

    I may have to try it, too!

  • @judithgotwald

    I am now learning Drupal – not that I want to – but a client needs some desperate help and I don’t have a choice.  ICK – I am not a fan of CMS sites in general.  SO, I know how Ann feels about having to jump in when there is SO little time.

    I can cheer-lead for you both. Heh.

    Eileen

  • lol….. my  daughter in law/tekk person  uses it  so   maybe she can  help if i  go for it….  i sure dont want to dilute my facebook…i will be looking  for some discussions on it….

    .our numbers  are so wierd now… our engagement is in  the  20% even  high  20s fairly often…  …  i dont worry about  the pictures  being lower now…..  i guess they  just  changed the reporting or  did that  change?

    …..but   facebook is  so  major…customers   tell me about it every day….and  one of my jobs now is   replying  with the  extra info  they ask  for….

    @supereb @judithgotwald

  • Go ANNstagram! Cheers from my little corner of the world to you, too, Miss Ann. I’m with Miss E in that I don’t know a thang about it, but eagerly cheer (push/lol) you on in this endeaver. Over all the other stuff we’ve talked about, this one DOES seem right for your “visual” business. And getting your techy DIL involved… well… that’s seems like a real boost! So I’m joining your Booster Club on this one, Miss Ann!

    Can’t wait to see what 20 minutes a day does for you…

    @annfurnivall

  • lol ROBIN….tuesday we got a 1/2 semi of garden iron from  mexico….and  then yesterday    80 boxes   , 5 pallets, of spring  inventory  …and  our whole awinng is  torn up  for lightpanels….. lol…. so it wont be this week!!!

    if it  could  be on my phone  camera  and i  could just delete the  bad pictures every night   that might work….i think i will post a question on  facebook and see what  they say…… i sure dont want to diffuse  facebook….where  more words   can  come thru  with the pictures….

  • Okey, dokey then… well, how bout 5 minutes, lol? (We just want to see all the pictures, Miss A! LOL!
    Robin

    @annfurnivall

  • @atlantarobin…ha ha  robin…. but  wouldnt  you have to  sign up  for instagram  to  even see  pictures?  and why  would  you do it?    i have tons of pictures on  my facebook page….the  semi , the  animals….  and  sold a  gazebo  from the facebook  post[ album]  and a goat  the  next  day!!! love  facebook…..

     i dont even  know how to   move pictures into different places/files….the  family geeks  are pretty  intolerant…..hard  for you to imagine  im  sure….

  • @annfurnivall Are you using Tumblr? It might be a nice bridge for you given it’s a very visual blog platform.

    @supereb I worked in Drupal briefly. I didn’t use it long enough to form an opinion though!

  • Off-Topic —   @kc_kreative — I do think Drupal is very powerful however, I only have the need for this one client. If these folks weren’t so special to me already I’d fire them as clients so as to not have to learn yet another platform.  I’ve been trying to delve more into WP and video this year, that was my goal.  But three new things? I’m not that good – it boggles my mind. Yikes!  (Heh)

    KC might be right on Tumblr @annfurnivall – but that might be another thing to learn too. Sheesh.

    Eileen :)

  • im not interestedd in blogs, been there done that……..i haved 5000 fans  on facebook and  3000 on pinterest….how much more social media  should i  go  for i  think is a good  question…

    . dont know what tumbler is….  i guess i keep my  favorite pictures on pinterest… @kc_kreative
