SBA to merge with Dept of Commerce. (7 posts)

  • Astounding news to share — Are they pulling our chains?

Obama to Dismantle Small Business Administration, Increase Foreign Aid

I would not normally post a news article but this seems to be running under the radar just a tad.  There may be more like this out there and this one was posted two days ago.

My OH!pinion is that this is really bad, bad news indeed. What’s yours?

  • @supereb I agree that it is bad news.  Small businesses will get lost in the system.  I think the government is crazy and has no idea how to handle finances!

  • Hi @dianebianchi

I agree – Cutting out the pork that has been added to bills over the years is the best place to start – did they do that?  Who knows.

  • @supereb

That would be a terrible idea, and one that would seem to go against Obama’s love of small business. (Both parties seem to love small business at least in word, not always in action.)

However, in clicking backwards through the links, I’m not sure that this isn’t a misunderstanding that’s building. I think someone took what he said during the election, expanded it, and then mashed it together with the fiscal cliff and made it an opinion.

Next up someone took that opinion as if it were fact.

Hopefully this is a misunderstanding that had legs of its own.

  • HI  @rich-brooks

I looked back some too – the first mention that I saw of this was in January of this year at the Washington Post and it seems solid to me —

Obama adds cabinet seat for SBA administrator, proposes merging commerce agencies

But it seems to have lost momentum over the course of the year, until now.

  • @supereb I certainly hope that it has lost momentum! While we need to keep tabs on foreign activities, I would like to see more investment in the good ol’ U.S. of A. One easy suggestion that will never be taken is to cut Congress’ salaries and free health care. They should only have access when in office and then the usual COBRA period once their out. It’s a job like anything else. Not sure why they feel privileged to live off of us. [puts away soapbox now]

I’m waiting to see what the fiscal cliff effects are going to be on my company and personal pocketbook.

  • Commerce and SBA have traditionally NOT held similar goals. Hope this is NOT true..
