Resource to get interviews from reporters/writers (7 posts)

Topic tags: HARO, PR, publicity
  • If you can become a reporter’s good knowledge  source, you improve your chances of getting more frequent publicity  and growing your reputations. One place to start is with HARO, http://www.helpareporter.com

You can register for free to get the emails with calls for info on a variety of topics.

In the past I have have used it to successfully generate some interviews for myself as well as one of my former employers’ President  (that got me some mileage!).

thought I would share this, and hope it helps someone.

  • Thanks a lot @joanmuschampfagnani
Seems helpful, gonna check it out!

  • @fernandocortes you have to read their emails and respond quickly –if there is a tight deadline, they will let you know.

It’s really good if you have some niche expertise to share, but regardless, once you have a good interview, or arrange one for someone else, the reporter/writer will remember you. Good relationships to cultivate. :)

  • @joanmuschampfagnani I had never heard of this HARO database, and yet I been involved, albeit indirectly, with PR and external communications for quite a while now. Thanks for the heads-up!

Will certainly look into it. Cheers,

  • @Joanmuschampfagnani Someone told me about HARO several years ago.  I signed up and started getting email notifications – they send them out in the morning, afternoon and evening.  I responded to one almost immediately and the reporter contacted me to tell me she was using my Article verbatim, she gave me a mention in the article and then sent me the article to see in the publication.  It was a great experience and gave me exposure.  The second one I responded to I never heard back at all.  I don’t know if the reporter used my article or did not.  It is definitely worth using and contributing to.

  • @dcoville001 sometimes I have that ”empty” experience. I simply (kindly) believe the reporter was deluged with responses and didn’t have time or resources to respond to everyone.

@fernandocortes @fredericgonzalo there is another similar resource, and he is having a webinar on Mnday.I’m pasting below. I attended this and picked up some good tips, as well as better ways to explain things to clients.
